In  a short story I jotted out a while back, I used EE - Earth Empire. Not necessarily inspired, but I don't believe I've seen that particular acronym used anywhere else.

EDI is ME2 is a shortcut for Normandy's artifical intelligence. Shortcuts can recur. Anyway, Earth Defensive Initiative is inspirated by GDI but it's just an inspiration. Whole name is used first in NS.

No it's not. The name has been in circulation for decades as a moniker for a global asteroid defense program, and it's also used in C&C modding iirc.

Not that it matters, like I said there's nothing new under the sun. Unless you're Iain Banks in which case you constantly come up with cool new names for stuff.
