(Since it's literally the first mission I can't change the names yet. Sorry. For reference, Amina will be StarSlayer, Owen will be Kyad, and Yegor will be Trashman, and Anton will be CommanderDJ. Assuming I don't get anyone killed.)
Pairing off and grabbing cover is pretty much the first thing you do in every mission.
"Contact! Two of them, direct front!" And nobody has a shot worth a damn. Time to keep moving.
"Firing! He's still up, still moving!" Well, DJ got a hit, but now you see Damage Roulette in action: he got it for a single HP.
And then he got shot for two HP. Ain't it grand?
Meanwhile, StarSlayer moves to flank the other alien.
Still only 1 HP of damage.
"Frag out!" Boosted aliens hurtin' mah rookies get grenaded, folks. That's a promise.
Kyad murders the other one on a 45% shot. Not bad.
"Jesus I blew his body even to bits. No sign of his gun."
Annnnnd then I completely blow it guessing where the other aliens are and they flank two of my people.
So they shoot at DJ, who's missed, and at Trashman, who's hit again and panics and takes cover.
Starslayer does two damage from a flanking position. Shame about the lack of a kill. Kyad does one damage to the other alien. DJ hops inside the truck to take cover but can't see anything from that position.
So hey you wanna see something really dumb?
This is really dumb. The guy who needs an extra HP desperately and is most close to death does something that gives an extra HP to the guy who might survive a hit and by the way will kill them both if the most-hurt guy is shot.
But they shot Kyad in the face, for 4 HP, so they'll at least be able to say they went down swinging.
"Firing!" StarSlayer misses.
"Firing! Good hit, good hit!" Kyad doesn't.
"What the hell, he keeled over and his gun blew up! We didn't even fire at him!"
"DJ, check it out, careful."
"They're both dead."
And so we win. DJ is now a support class, and Kyad is a heavy. Kyad is in the hospital for 12 days and Trashman for 9.
