Limit is around 60. My backgrounds will sum up to about 124. Add that to the standard ones and you need about 150.

this is awesome, i love these screenies. I'll try it all out in game some time too, but right now, i'm hosting a multi game.

btw, how will it be handled if someone hosts a mission with these in it, and some of the clients don't have em?

I can understand that the ships.tbl takes loads of mem. But a simple background name list?

it's one of those things you'd need to know the size of ahead of time.

it isn't so much this one thing but the 'just raise the limits' mindset in general. there isn't a problem on an individual basis, but it all adds up.

Say, could it be coded so that only the relevant parts of the table are loaded into memory? Like it recompiles the tables while loading the mission, stores the smaller - compiled tables in memory - then discards them and recompiles a new set whenever a new mission is loaded?

the tables them selves take up virtualy no space, the stuff the tables tell the game to load on the other hand can take up an amazeing amount of memory.

Thanks to the great guys from the SCP team I can finally release Nebula Set 04.







The background composition sucks, i just took one from another test mission and changed the images- I don't have any time at the moment.

Important:

1. You need a COMPLETELY up-to-date build. Anything pre 28-3 will NOT work with this release. You will eventually have to update your FSO version. I reccommend the fs2_openT-20040401.exe build for use with this release.

2. Currently, there is only ONE release of FRED that will support making missions with this release. You will find it in Kazan's recent FRED topic. Any other versions of FRED will *NOT* be able to properly set up backgrounds with it.

On a side note, I have re-imported the original backgrounds, so it has regained full compatibility with all 'canon nebula' missions.

Remember, if you build any custom background compostitions with the FRED background editor, copy the background info from the mission file (with notepad) and send it to me. The more background settings I get, the sooner you'll see the retail missions with the new nebulae

you should make good versions of all of the retail nebula. that way they'll be in all the retail missions and user created missions and campaigns.

That'd be like trying to make a good version of Windows.

Sometimes it's necessary to change the whole concept in order to get worthwhile results.

I dont like the multi coloured FS2 flakes too much


Seriously though, there will be a convertor for missions so you can easily add the new backgrounds to them
