The first one is just the flying awesome itself. The second one looks cool though.

Too bad FreeSpace prefers it when the model doesn't move a lot :P

Well the Vamp's side visibility wasn't completely obstructed by the winglets IIRC...

To be fair it doesn't need to worry about visibility since that fighter is controlled by an A.I. if I remember right.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
I agree that the first design's pilot visibility is poor (unless the previously-suggested A.I. thing is in play).  If you were further back in its design phase, I'd suggest that you improve the visibility and balance the main-wing-to-canard angles at the same time.  I think that to balance the dihedral main wings, that the canards should be anhedral to compensate (visually, not aerodynamically).  That would allow room to extend the cockpit upward.

The Yukikaze Mave is the ultimate in ridiculous anime aircraft. Not making sense is kind of the point. :P

The same reason E.D.I looked like it had a cockpit even though it was an A.I.? Just because?
Nevermind it's a manned fighter.

That's all pretty moot since it's from a show. What's shown here is what's shown there. :P
Now if it was a design based on the Mave, on the other hand.

Who needs direct visibility when you have 360-degree cameras projecting enhanced images internally?

Re: A celebration of Freespace
This first of that latest batch of screenshots kinda reminds me of the SU-47 "Berkut" but I'm gonna echo the sentiment that the wings should be anhedral; if that is atmospheric, it's gonna lose a lot of lift in level flight and have a nasty tendency to drop into a deep stall at higher angles of attack, even without provocation. But, not my model, Rule of Cool, etc.  :P

I think it would look like some kinda badarse bird of prey with the wings at an anhedral, though.

Yeah, both the FFR-31MR/D and FFR-41MR supports the Yukikaze AI. But you can change it to a specialized AI module anyway, so...

well, then what does it need any cockpit for?

That's the Super Sylph though. The question's about the Mave.

Oh, that quote was said by James, during Mave's first combat deployment where TAB-15 was targeted by Yukikaze...somewhere around the point where Col. Gunow asked who was responsible for remodeling the FRX-99. :P
