New and improved welcome beam...
Following a very rapid mucking about with Photoshop, I give you the new and improved HLP welcome beam. Please use it appropriately and don't spam it, if I start seeing the rainbow on a daily basis I'm just going to remove all but the green one :p

With that in mind...

What was the motivation behind the font change?

Ok. I think I still have the .psd for

So if you want to use the old font, I can look it up.

Re: New and improved welcome beam...
I do, yes :)

Is there something particularly wrong with the new font? I was looking for something a bit smaller, cleaner, crisper...

Re: New and improved welcome beam...
At least in my eyes, it almost looks a bit too...professional.  The classic beam looks a bit more like a 90-second Photoshop hack job, which always made it seem more endearing to me.  I don't mind the new options at all, but would it be possible to retain the original, just for nostalgia's sake?

The edge of the text is a bit fuzzy and grainy. Any chance of getting it clearer?

Re: New and improved welcome beam...
Pardon the realism critic in me, but... you have shadows beneath the letters. Over the beam. The letters are casting shadows on the beam. Doesn't that seem wrong to you?

Shouldn't it be something more like this, where the beam's light is overflowing the letters?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Re: New and improved welcome beam...
Meh, it's a graphic. It looks perfectly crisp on my monitor and yes there's a drop shadow, but I think that adds to the image.

If it's really not that well recieved then I'll put the old one back if someone can supply me with the graphic. I'm not going to waste my time on doing things if they're going to get nit-picked.

I kind of like the old one better too... :nervous:

Ack.  You overwrote the old welcome beam without backing it up?

Yeah, the old one ought to be within easy reach, but I don't think anyone could produce it inside of 60 seconds. :)

What font is the new one in?

EDIT:

:welcomegreen:

:necro:
EDIT2: Haha! I win!

EDIT3: No! It appears it is in the wrong font! And not in bold! Oh well! I lose! I don't feel like doing anything anymore.
