Alternative DL links. Plus there is Turey's installer that's not on there. I'm not sure which one your using, though.

To be honest I'm a bad choice of person to maintain the list of Freespace 2 download links. It would be much smarter if someone like yourself or jr2 copied it, corrected the dead links and posted it themselves.

At the moment I'm the only person who can change those links. If someone else takes on the responsibility they can keep it up to date and I can still modify the list since I have moderator powers on any board I can see.

Re: Insert CD? I have free version!
Explain what you did step by step, and then give the error (what happened wrong).  Number the steps.  It will make things easier:

1) I downloaded uTorrent, got the file succesfully
2) I did xx, like the instructions in xx said to do, it worked ok
3) I used the Launcher with options...

you get the drift..

Re: Insert CD? I have free version!
Mph... you're telling me that, when you run the file "launcher.exe", and select "fs2_open_3_6_9.exe", that it's giving you problems?

Are you actually hitting the "Ready Room" button? Because the Campaign room only allows you to change the campaign, not play it.

Re: Insert CD? I have free version!
Oh my god werewere is a chicken without a head. If one way of getting the game doesn't work for him, he goes to the next, and if that doesn't work, he goes to the next. Had a problem with bittorrent (try using it again), had a problem with the installer (try using it again, i used it last week to install fs2 and it was slow, but finished). After that RTFM around here. And the fso doesn't need any cd's in any drives for it to work. Fso requiring a cd in the drive was solved a long time ago.

Anyway, making the game work is as easy as using the installer, and telling it to grab what you need to run fso along with the mediavp's and stuff. And if not that then it's the same thing looking for everything manually yourself to make a working game assemblage which the installer will give you. After knowing what you need to grab, it's just a matter of learning how the launcher works. Wow, 2 steps...get the game files, and know how the launcher works. There you go, nothing else special like a cd in your drive. Getting the fso to run does require some knowledge, but it's not that big, and doesn't take that long to get used to. After that people either make it work through persistence or are trying to get a really big silver platter with little thought and effort involved.

Re: Insert CD? I have free version!
OK, enough beating around the bush, you aren't letting us help you, because you aren't telling us exactly what the error messages are that come up, etc, etc.

NO ONE CAN HELP TROUBLE SHOOT "ARG IT DOESN'T WORK!" ERRORS UNLESS YOU PROVIDE AT LEAST A HALF BAKED DESCRIPTION OF WHAT WENT WRONG!  YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS!!

Ah, ok... now, go run the debug build, and post the last 10 lines of the error log you'll find in Freespace2\data\

Sorry about that, I got my "Standard questions to ask people who have problems with BtRL" and my "Standard questions to ask people who have problems with FSO" mixed up.

People who downloaded BtRL just kept hitting "Campaign" instead of hitting the ready room button.
