AAaahhh, I love you Omni. It's a great teaser. I didn't know the firepower of this Battlestar Galactica will be infernal.
Oh, i forgot, Will there be really a cockpit view in final release ? O_o I love cockpit view.

Small question: how do you get the text to zoom into the screen like that? I can only get mine to fade in and out or get ugly roll ins and outs :( :nervous:

Damn. If it weren't for some tiny nitpicks on the text, I would say that it's perfect. (Instead of "Why just watch the TV show", I'd say "Why just watch the action" but that's the only thing that doesn't flow perfectly). There's a bit of sun-poping going on with the Base Star about midway through, but that's honest to the engine. Otherwise, this is the best promo video I've seen for this engine with any content, bar none.

That does sound better. Verbal eloquence is not my strong point. I'm just an artist, I make things look pretty :)
Perhaps on the next trailer, I will confer with my colleagues about words.

I have to ask it again...can FS2 AI actually survive a run on the Galatica? I would think any AI-piloted ship would get near-instantly swatted out of the sky...

That trailer is god-tastic. This rivals even professional work! I give it two thumbs WAY up!
Quick Question: Where are those shockwave effects from? Are they in one of the SCP builds or are they newly designed for BSG?

The AI can penetrate Galactica's defenses but only in large numbers with strategic outflanking.. The bombers never get a clean shot because of the turrets and their bomb priority AI. If a Fredder wanted a squadron of Raiders to destroy Galactica fairly, some clever strategy is required of the fredder, if they are to do it with a limited amount of squadrons.

They are IMHO the best looking shockwaves I've seen with the FS2 engine.
And I want to give my thanks to all you people who are working so hard on this project. You've all done a wonderful job! :)

Whoa. I didn't think the BSG project was this major until a few minutes ago. But there is one burning question on my mind about the mod in general - will there be enough variety in the game to constitute something that doesn't get repetitive?

The mod has a big adavantage above many other mods. There are only a few fighters on both sides. Two Vipers, one Raider...
On the other hand some of the capital ships are quite complex to modell, but I still think BSG still has an advantage.
I fear the missions will be a problem. The show doesn't allow much variance. I.e. it's almost impossible to take down a Basestar. In the show the crew tries to avoid and escape as many battles as possible.
So if the mod will have more than five missions, we'll have to come up with some really good mission designs. We're practially forced to. :)

With the Big base asteroid which was posted here sometimes ago, You could probably make enought mission.
Or why not to put some Infiltration mission.

first...OMG that freakin awesome!!! I showed it to a film school buddy who doesn't watch the show or play FS2, and he said it was sweet. me wanna play!!!! :p
Second. There are a few more ships to fly as well. there's the raptor, there's CPO Tyrols Blackbird stealh ship. Both of those add an extra layer of depth beyond just the vipers. And for the cylon at heart there's also the Heavy Raider, and the large mystery basestar( although they haven't shown it clearly yet). and finally...Will the Pegasus be there? cause I'd love to see alittle battlestar on battlestar action. these are all from the first half of season 2. if you haven't seen it, get it. granted adding all these is more work. However, it would be highly beneficial to campaign design.
I personally think it would be awesome to be a raptor pilot dodging enemy fire trying to get a scan of a basestar...and maybe, just for the sake of mission balance...come up with a viper bomber variation? or even just allow viper's to cary an extremely limited number of nukes for a desperate asault of a basestar...oh so much potential...I can't wait to see it. If you need a hand with any of the conceptuals send me a PM. Sadly I really don't have time to do much else. it looks so good man, keep it up!!!

that is why its up to use FREDDERS to make sure we arent repetative. DONT WORRY GUYS... we got some good ideas for missions and will vary as we go along.... trust me, no 3 minute missions like in fs2 retail.... that was pure blah back then.

Omni, the fredders, and I are working hard to create campaigns that will not only stay true to the universe that Moore has been sharing with us, but also fit in with events mentioned but not elaborated in the show. Beyond this, it is a surprise;-) I am working hard to not only remain true to Moore's vision, but also create variety and an 'in-the-show' action experience that will--hopefully--draw the player into the story and hold them there.
BTW...still taking voice auditions...taking all apps, but really needing females!

It has been said (the quote I remember is from the offical website) that one of the Raptor's design purposes was nuclear strike...it was not said this strike was endoatmospheric.
Basestar get nuked go boom. :)

Couple of A few questions:
1 - Do you have the Cylon eye-swoop sound in there? I can't tell, since my subwoofer crapped out on me just today, and I think the cutoff frequency is above the swoop SFX. :p
2 - How about the rest of the sound effects? Are you going to be grabbing those from the show as well?
3 - If the SCP engine can do a widescreen resolution, I recommend any future videos be produced with a widescreen aspect ratio. Far more dramatic, besides being true to the show.
4 - "Why just watch the TV show?" / "When you can join the fight" should actually be "Why just watch the TV show..." / "...when you can join the fight?" - grammatically speaking, of course.
5 - The Cylon fighter eye dot (30 seconds) should (IMO) not have a different-colored center - it should be all red.
6 - No Viper launch tubes?
7 - DivX 6 has a much better quality / size ratio. Equivalent of (and more stable than) Xvid, even.
8 - Might be an idea to provide this video in a format an iPod Video would be able to read... ;)

We are going to aim to have all sound effects from the show's.
Widescreen resolutions has odd effects like starfield/nebula off alighnment. It also renders the effects NULL beyond the 4:3 aspect. Lasers would disappear prematurely.
I'm an immigrant. My Grammer is supposed to be bad :) Besides.. I love run on sentences.
The Cylon eye animation is still a quick construct. I have every intention to make it more prominant with a brighter blow and refracted light (like the Galaxy class Trek model)
Viper launch tubes will be modelled when I get back to remodelling the Galactica. (YES.. REMODEL)
I used Divx 6 for the avi... but its settings are still new to me. I dont know the best settings to use to minimize artifacts and pixelization.
Since I'm jealous of you and of everyone else with Ipods.. I REFUSE to make that conversion out of spite. :)

Uhmm... ooops. There was a soundfile on the FTP, but it has a music track in the background. I tried to remove that part. I had to play a bit around with the frequenzies. I guess I could work on it again.

Theres a good sound bite u can get from the mini-series... the begining...the eye sounds are prominent when the centurians come in the room.

The only thing I would say that could be done better is as the projectiles are coming at you, it should speed up the closer it gets, however, seeing that this is Freespace 2 engine, Very Good work. Just my opinion, and cant wait to get it.

I'm confused. The projectiles should speed up when they get closer? Could you explain why that is?

relative distance, the further away they appear slower, closer, they appear to be going faster. Example: ever watch Star Trek when they are in warp, the stars farther out go slower than the stars that are closer.

It's also like when you're on the freeway. The cars in the lanes goitg the opposit direction don't seem to be moving very fast until they get closer and then they go by to fast to really follow.

Ok, I didn't realize that you meant the illusion of speed due to an observer's distance. But when I watch the trailer, the shots do in fact seem to go faster when they are closer. Maybe it is a bit hard to notice due to the shots having a very high velocity compared to weapons in Freespace.

It should be true for any 3D app, for that matter.
More likely you're noticing the absence of motion blur. :nod:
