Title: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: bfobar on January 28, 2006, 12:02:47 am
Since I found the SCP enhancements I've played:

fs2 main
derelict
transcend
sync
fs1port main campaign

What are the next must plays?

Just Another Day (and JAD2)
Fall of Epsilon Pegasi

Those are honestly the only ones that are not on your list that I still play frequently. However, if you're still interested in campaigns, I'd recommend playing Rogue Intentions (yes, this is a very shameless pimp, but I need feedback).

EDIT: Now that I think of it, "Sol: A History" was an excellent campaign; too bad it hates SCP though.

BR's "Shrouding The Light", "Shrouding The Light: Origins", "Homesick"
Inferno R1 (remember to get the SCP patch)

Warzone's another good one, and you haven't lived until you've tried Deus Ex Machina. :p

Don't neglect the truly terrible campaigns, like 'The Second Great War, Part 2' I believe it's called...  :nervous:

Thank God those went down the Archives.

I'll add a vote for The Titan Rebellion as well. Reasonably balanced, good storyline too.

I know it was horribly unbalanced and unrealistic, but that campaign was great fun.

Whee...! (http://www.fileh.com/kietotheworld/GW2Part2.zip)

And here's The Titan Rebellion as well.  It died with the archives.  Link (http://www.fileh.com/kietotheworld/TheTitanRebellion.zip)

Anyone know where I can find Chapter 5 on Into the Depths of Hell?  It says its hosted on The Hades Combine, but I can't find it on there.

On a side note, do we still have all the standalone missions from Descent Chronicles somewhere? There were a couple of pretty decent ones in there that I would like to play again if I can find them.

Skippy's campaign list seems to think it is, and the site is slightly confusing.  It says one part needs work, but it also says "ALL" of the chapters are available from HC.

Play Revenge Final COnflict. It has 88 mission, so you're busy for a while.

But only download it now if you speak german. I'm still doing the english translation :)

Just played Just Another Day and Warzone.

Just Another Day was hilarious. I giggled like a schoolgirl after the KABOOM!

Warzone was very involving but it needs some mission touchups.

Next up: Rebel intentions, JAD2: Electric Boogaloo, and BWO demo.

Another good campaigns :)

Aeos Affair (it's a good retail campaign ;))
Neo-Terra (again, i was buggy, sure, but i like it, because you play a bad guy ;))
Renegade Ressurgence (i play it last week, it was a interesting campaign)
Inferno (very good Total Conversion)

How did you get it wor run smooth? Everytime the Antwerpen shows up, the game crashes.

hi,
mhh strange.
the only time that it crash was as in the second mission the NTF destroyer had jump in and open fire, so i blow it up with cheats and no problems, but no other problems with the campain.

i have use the 2/2/06 build with D3D, normal resolution and the 3.6.8 medias.

OK...here's a few with a couple of requests (some are reposts since they poofed)

The LDK Campaign and Allied Worlds are recommended (the DL works fine but i can't extract this with winace/winrar..nothing there..strange)  in addition Inner Troubles Part 1 is fun as well as the great war 2.  All and more can be found here

http://archives.volitionwatch.com/fs2/missions/campaigns.php3

In addition, the  Lightning Marshal campaign was fun from what I can remember

http://www.3dactionplanet.com/hlp/hosted/lmarshal/index1.htm

Also, if the links are still valid, any kind soul want to see if they can mirror the DL's somewhere (Hades Combine maybe?)  I deleted LM1 and 4 a long time ago but oddly I still have parts of 3 and all of 2 and the prequil regulas campaign..i think...although the angelfire link for the RCampaign seems to be dead....yay for old hard drives!

That's odd. I tried to play Renegade Ressurgence on FS2_open and in my first mission I had an Ulysses only with Tempests and no energy weapons.  Any ideas?

And no I don't have any other campaign vp's in the folder

hi,
have you try to play RR with FS2 or with FS_open?

if you try to play with FS_open, make an own folder, and but it in there, and mark the folder as mod in the launcher.
i played RR a few days ago, and it work for me with FS_Open an Redemence build 02/02 and 3.6.8, correctly.

I just played Destiny of Peace for the FSPort. Aside from a few little things that may have been introduced from porting it to FSopen, it was really good.

Where'd you get Destony of Peace from? I wanna try! :D

I also need help getting Sol: A History to work - I figured out you need Inferno, but even with that it complains royally when I try and load Inferno with all the SaH files in the Inferno directory...

If you're using FSO with SaH, then I'm afraid you're out of luck. FSO hates SaH with a passion, though I'm not entirely sure why.

As for Destiny of Peace, click me. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,37935.0.html)

Thankees! :D

But what about SaH?
Is it something fixable? *hopeful look*

If not... I may have to re-install FS2 so that I can get the retail mode in a less-messed up state!! ;)

FilePlanet is indeed the spawn of satan.

But, there are ways around it - On the modern Internet, circumvention is no longer merely a skill, but is now a survival trait!

Desperation and Neo-Terra (it was kinda fun playing for the bad guys !)

Er, I'm assuming that Inferno ships don't exist when the Lucifer is threatening Earth. To be more specific, I'm seeing nothing but Vesuvius fighters in SaH. Maybe I installed incorrectly? The SaH vp is placed together with the Inf_main vp. Or will it work only if the individual core and EA vps are installed?

Oh, and thanks for the link nuclear    ;)

OK,  this is what I did to get Sol A History to work.

EDIT ADD:  (Turns out the copy of SAH that I have is not .vp'ed.  Yes I have it from that long ago  :D  So I don't know if the following advice will work but it should be the same..in theory)

1. Have a clean install of FS2 (NO FS OPEN...at least for me tends not to work with it)
2.  Install Inferno so the core .vp is there
3. Add all the files in Sol A History to the Freespace/data folder (appropriate files in appropriate folders as they are marked)
4.  If you did this correctly you should see a different UI type..(WIth a Sathanas in the background) and then go to campaigns and it should work then.  (Emphasize again for me this needs to work WITHOUT FS_Open at least that's how I got it to work)
5. Have fun playing..it's a 4 step campaign.
Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: ploider on February 21, 2006, 06:06:56 pm
I finally got it working. Apparently simply renaming it '0SAH.vp' does wonders.
But thanks for the help Dan.   :)

I need to cut down on the smilies.

Ah, just the thread I was looking for.

Today I completed the main FS2 campaign so I'm on the look out for a new campaign or two to try.  Only started playing the game this year so I'm a bit of a newb :)  Most important for me are:

-Must be a complete campaign (i.e. not beta/unfinished)
-Must be compatible with SCP enhancements
-Good production values (storyline/presentation in between missions.... i.e. more than just a bunch of random missions tacked together)

Any advice?
Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: Nuclear1 on March 18, 2006, 12:59:58 pm
Well, this thread really does summarize all the good ones. Still, the ones I still play quite frequently:

Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: Qwer on March 18, 2006, 01:44:59 pm
For FS2 nOObs i recommend to play champaings in that order:
Homesick
Sync
Transcend
Inferno
Deus Ex Machina
Just Another Day
Just Another Day 2

These are must haves.

Sol:A History
Into The Depths Of Hell
Renegade Ressurenge
Derelict

Optional ones.
Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: aceofspades on March 18, 2006, 07:41:04 pm
First of all, excuse me, but Derelict is not by any shot more optional than JAD, Deus Ex Machina, or even Homesick. Anyway, I haven't actually played alot of these because I'm always stuck on some stupid Inferno mission, but may I ask if JAD is a satirical campain? Like DEM, which I have played?
Also, I'm not sure if this is the best place for this question, but the S:AH discussion sets precedent. Anyway, I'm having a weird problem with the third Desperation mission. It's the one where you have to run through a Ravana's blockade of a jump node. I won't reveal what happens at the end, but suffice it to say that the 'Downloading New Orders' icon appears, and the mission ends, and you get presented with a briefing. That is, unless you were scared so badly that you just jumped out the moment you realized what was happening - that's what I did first time I played the mission. Back to the point: the mission briefing that I get presented with is not a 'red alert' briefing where you just accept. I thought that all missions after a 'Download New Orders' thing have to be red alert. Anyway, that's not really the problem. The problem is that the mission I get presented with is the exact same mission I was doing in the first place. It's like a loop. Nothing I do inside the mission lets me go ahead to a new one, not even enabling the cheats and using '~' + G to complete all primary goals.
Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?

JAD is a satirical campaign and a pretty good one too.
Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: Goober5000 on March 19, 2006, 03:03:49 am
Actually, I think DEM is the satire and JAD is something else.  When making DEM, I took a bunch of things that were common to the FS2 universe or to FREDding, and then sort of turned them on their head or took them to an absurd extreme.  DEM acts like a regular campaign, and you can picture it taking place in a version of the FS2 universe where a lot of things went wrong.  JAD, on the other hand, just goes crazy and doesn't really try to stay in the FS2 universe - it's more surreal.  Both campaigns are funny, but IMHO they try to do different things.

That's my take on it, at least. :)
Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: aceofspades on March 19, 2006, 03:36:03 am
It also points out the surreal things that are already present in the 'real' FS universe. And seriously, what's with everyone in the FS community knowing about that ST2 scene with 2-D thinking? :wtf:

I am on the lookout for a place to download these campaigns:

Transcend
Just another day 2
Sync

Anybody feel like helping me out O.o.

I know.. Im just full of problems :-D
Title: Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Post by: aceofspades on March 30, 2006, 07:47:35 pm
http://fs2.webdl.org/ is a good place to start for getting campaigns (including Sync & Transcend, both of which are must plays). Incidentally, Ransom Arceihn (sp?), the maker of both, has links to them in his signature.
So...here are my problems...questions about campaign endings/plots. In tiny font so you won't see teh spoilerness (transcend, sync, inferno, homesick) unless you copy-paste somewhere else and resize:

I've heard that Transcend is a semi-followup on Sync. How? Did the transcendant become disconnected through an accident involving Sync? Are your (Marcel's) memories of escorting freighters those of the pilot who escorted the Ester and Faere in Sync? Do those memories belong to the transcendant? Is the transcendant one of the pilots in the player's wing in Sync? Is he the player from Sync himself? What happened to that nebula mission in the beginning of Sync that was disconnected from everything else? Is that the transcendant's nebula? After all, it is mentioned that the jump node in the Sync mission was unstable and couldn't take that capship that the player was defending, and the Transcend node is unstable as well.
In Inferno, I'm playing using the mission simulator with the -allslev flag because my campaign progress got deleted. Anyway, after the mission where you face off with the EASD Nemesis and then the mission where you meet the Gigas, the campaign ends. However, in the Tech Database there are mentions of the Gigas being destroyed, not to mention that I've heard that inferno comes with Ancient ships. This combined with the fact that the campaign's title is 'chapter 1' makes me think that perhaps there is another part that I am missing. Should I replay all the missions normally and just cheat through them using '~' + G to complete the objectives?
In Homesick...well, no matter what I do (including cheats IIRC), in the before-last mission where your wing and the Custodian are chased through subspace, at some point the Custodian will be doing fine and then it will just suddenly explode for no obvious reason (e.g. hit by bombs or a beam). Then it says I was killed by the Custodian exploding.? I had to cheat using ~ + G in order to get to the last mission (which was, I might add, thoroughly depressing).

Thanks...
