Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Add 2 more excellent campaigns to the list.

Desperation and Neo-Terra (it was kinda fun playing for the bad guys !)

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Er, I'm assuming that Inferno ships don't exist when the Lucifer is threatening Earth. To be more specific, I'm seeing nothing but Vesuvius fighters in SaH. Maybe I installed incorrectly? The SaH vp is placed together with the Inf_main vp. Or will it work only if the individual core and EA vps are installed?

Oh, and thanks for the link nuclear    ;)

OK,  this is what I did to get Sol A History to work.

EDIT ADD:  (Turns out the copy of SAH that I have is not .vp'ed.  Yes I have it from that long ago  :D  So I don't know if the following advice will work but it should be the same..in theory)

1. Have a clean install of FS2 (NO FS OPEN...at least for me tends not to work with it)
2.  Install Inferno so the core .vp is there
3. Add all the files in Sol A History to the Freespace/data folder (appropriate files in appropriate folders as they are marked)
4.  If you did this correctly you should see a different UI type..(WIth a Sathanas in the background) and then go to campaigns and it should work then.  (Emphasize again for me this needs to work WITHOUT FS_Open at least that's how I got it to work)
5. Have fun playing..it's a 4 step campaign.

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
I finally got it working. Apparently simply renaming it '0SAH.vp' does wonders.
But thanks for the help Dan.   :)

I need to cut down on the smilies.

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Ah, just the thread I was looking for.

Today I completed the main FS2 campaign so I'm on the look out for a new campaign or two to try.  Only started playing the game this year so I'm a bit of a newb :)  Most important for me are:

-Must be a complete campaign (i.e. not beta/unfinished)
-Must be compatible with SCP enhancements
-Good production values (storyline/presentation in between missions.... i.e. more than just a bunch of random missions tacked together)

Any advice?

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Well, this thread really does summarize all the good ones. Still, the ones I still play quite frequently:

  • Deux Ex Machina (silly campaign)
  • Just Another Day/Just Another Day 2 (silly campaign, but with disco!)
  • Transcend
  • Sync
  • FSPort (and all ported FS campaigns: Destiny of Peace and Awakenings)
  • The Titan Rebellion
  • Homesick
  • Rogue Intentions Episode I ( :nervous: )

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
For FS2 nOObs i recommend to play champaings in that order:
Homesick
Sync
Transcend
Inferno
Deus Ex Machina
Just Another Day
Just Another Day 2

These are must haves.

Sol:A History
Into The Depths Of Hell
Renegade Ressurenge
Derelict

Optional ones.
If in your opinion there's no difference beetwen "Master Game" and "Game Master", I can only feel for you.

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
First of all, excuse me, but Derelict is not by any shot more optional than JAD, Deus Ex Machina, or even Homesick. Anyway, I haven't actually played alot of these because I'm always stuck on some stupid Inferno mission, but may I ask if JAD is a satirical campain? Like DEM, which I have played?
Also, I'm not sure if this is the best place for this question, but the S:AH discussion sets precedent. Anyway, I'm having a weird problem with the third Desperation mission. It's the one where you have to run through a Ravana's blockade of a jump node. I won't reveal what happens at the end, but suffice it to say that the 'Downloading New Orders' icon appears, and the mission ends, and you get presented with a briefing. That is, unless you were scared so badly that you just jumped out the moment you realized what was happening - that's what I did first time I played the mission. Back to the point: the mission briefing that I get presented with is not a 'red alert' briefing where you just accept. I thought that all missions after a 'Download New Orders' thing have to be red alert. Anyway, that's not really the problem. The problem is that the mission I get presented with is the exact same mission I was doing in the first place. It's like a loop. Nothing I do inside the mission lets me go ahead to a new one, not even enabling the cheats and using '~' + G to complete all primary goals.
I wonder if the Shivans eat chocolate? Or play FS2, for that matter.

JAD is a satirical campaign and a pretty good one too.

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
Actually, I think DEM is the satire and JAD is something else.  When making DEM, I took a bunch of things that were common to the FS2 universe or to FREDding, and then sort of turned them on their head or took them to an absurd extreme.  DEM acts like a regular campaign, and you can picture it taking place in a version of the FS2 universe where a lot of things went wrong.  JAD, on the other hand, just goes crazy and doesn't really try to stay in the FS2 universe - it's more surreal.  Both campaigns are funny, but IMHO they try to do different things.

That's my take on it, at least. :)

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
It also points out the surreal things that are already present in the 'real' FS universe. And seriously, what's with everyone in the FS community knowing about that ST2 scene with 2-D thinking? :wtf:

Re: Which campaign are the must haves?
http://fs2.webdl.org/ is a good place to start for getting campaigns (including Sync & Transcend, both of which are must plays). Incidentally, Ransom Arceihn (sp?), the maker of both, has links to them in his signature.
So...here are my problems...questions about campaign endings/plots. In tiny font so you won't see teh spoilerness (transcend, sync, inferno, homesick) unless you copy-paste somewhere else and resize:

I've heard that Transcend is a semi-followup on Sync. How? Did the transcendant become disconnected through an accident involving Sync? Are your (Marcel's) memories of escorting freighters those of the pilot who escorted the Ester and Faere in Sync? Do those memories belong to the transcendant? Is the transcendant one of the pilots in the player's wing in Sync? Is he the player from Sync himself? What happened to that nebula mission in the beginning of Sync that was disconnected from everything else? Is that the transcendant's nebula? After all, it is mentioned that the jump node in the Sync mission was unstable and couldn't take that capship that the player was defending, and the Transcend node is unstable as well.
In Inferno, I'm playing using the mission simulator with the -allslev flag because my campaign progress got deleted. Anyway, after the mission where you face off with the EASD Nemesis and then the mission where you meet the Gigas, the campaign ends. However, in the Tech Database there are mentions of the Gigas being destroyed, not to mention that I've heard that inferno comes with Ancient ships. This combined with the fact that the campaign's title is 'chapter 1' makes me think that perhaps there is another part that I am missing. Should I replay all the missions normally and just cheat through them using '~' + G to complete the objectives?
In Homesick...well, no matter what I do (including cheats IIRC), in the before-last mission where your wing and the Custodian are chased through subspace, at some point the Custodian will be doing fine and then it will just suddenly explode for no obvious reason (e.g. hit by bombs or a beam). Then it says I was killed by the Custodian exploding.? I had to cheat using ~ + G in order to get to the last mission (which was, I might add, thoroughly depressing).

Thanks...

Re:  Inferno

Inferno is going to be remade and have three chapters.  None of which have as yet been released.

Re:  Homesick

Spoiler:
If any capital ship (cruiser or above) is destroyed then everything in the node will be destroyed.
