http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3523670659115894947First up, it's an old movie - at least several months old I believe - that doesn't actually show parts of the actual game, it's only a promo-thing, and as such the engine is still subject to change. The existance of a Metroid Prime 3 is also considerably old news, as the success of the previous titles have led to said sequel being one of the launch titles, and it might just be the killer-app Revolution needs to get started. Regarding the "logo" that you commented on, the fact of the matter is that 'Revolution' isn't actually the name of the console, it's only the code-name.
Cool beans... Though I disagree about what he said concerning the graphics... But it's Metroid fricking Prime so it doesn't matter TOO much.
OT: The logo for the Revolution is... well, you can see for yourself.
Maybe I'm not a big enough gaming whore, but I'm perfectly content with games that looks like this.
hell, I was content with how Z:OoT looked...
As for looks-wise, it looks ok, nothing exceptional, but then Nintendo have always been more about producing good games than producing pretty ones, I certainly hope they maintain that procedure.I always thought that over the past five years, they've been abusing and exploiting old franchises to the point where nobody wants to play them. *Cough*Mario*Cough*Zelda*Cough*Metroid*Cough*Donkey Kong*Cough*
I always thought that over the past five years, they've been abusing and exploiting old franchises to the point where nobody wants to play them. *Cough*Mario*Cough*Zelda*Cough*Metroid*Cough*Donkey Kong*Cough*Too right. I mean, nobody bought those stinkers Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, or Metroid Prime. Some may say they're among the best console games ever, but well all know that bastards at Big N totally killed the franchises!

He might be referring to games like Super Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker, which IMO were pretty awful.Honest question; have you played the games for more than five minutes?* I wholeheartedly agree that the premise of both games was kinda wierd, what with 'Sunshine' and crap for Mario, and the cell-shaded cartoon graphics of Wind-Waker. But, when you actually get into the meat of the game, Wind-waker is one of the best of the franchise adding a nice bit of originality with the ocean, and Sunshine is almost as fun as Mario 64.
Honest question; have you played the games for more than five minutes?I own and have completed both games. My problem with Mario was that it wasn't much of a Mario game when you got right down to it, and I just found the gameplay pretty frustrating. And Wind Waker's graphic style was the one thing I actually liked about the game. Overall I didn't really find its story very interesting, and the whole ocean business was just tedious to me since everything's so far apart and there's not much for you to do between islands.

However, regarding Windwaker, you do make a good point with the whole Ocean thing, which can get bloody repedative traversing before you get the Cyclone-song-thingy. But I actually liked the story considerably, especially the whole 'sunken-Hyrule' aspect of it. Twas a great experience traversing Hyrule Castle frozen in time.
I've always liked Nintendo because of the fact that they tended to keep away from the 'I'm a hard bastard' type games, which seems to be most games out there at the moment. They all seem to involve people who walk around with huge guns and give meaninfull looks at the camera whilst dressed in either full combat gear (male) or 1 foot of silk and two pan-lids (female). Nintendo could make an action game without falling into the 'It's got to be gritty' trap, and because they were not beholden to that 'real life' image, they could be a lot more 'fantasy based' and enjoyable for it.

Don't forget the crotchguards!

But then again, maybe that's just me.
Slightly off-topic; Which came out first: Turrican or Metroid?
I have to admit I imagine the Epic offices to be full of slightly overweight programmers wearing gigantic faux-metal codpieces, perhaps for gesticulatory purposes.
as for metroid, or nintendo for that matter, the problem is with nintendo, that they pretty much run their games on the hype alone, and don't market their products as much as Sony and Microsoft do, whom put a hell of a lot of funding out just for advertising alone.Putting so much money into advertising is why Big N made considerably more profit on the GCN than Sony and M$ made with the PS2 & Xbox respectivly [M$ made a loss, I believe]. Plus, you also have to remember that the DS is currently outselling the PSP, so whatever the hell Big N is doing in regards to advertising, it's definitely working.

Frankly, I think quite highly of the Big N marketing division for not going so low as to resort to spray-painting walls and streets promoting their products.
i never said who was outselling who, i simply stated that here, you don't see much in terms in advertising.I disagree, I say it is Nintendo that are throwing out an apt amount of advertising, and Sony & M$ [namely M$] are simply pissing away so much on advertising that it dwarfs Big N's attempts.

I remember waiting for friggin ever for the latest Metroid game. Granted, it will always be hard to match Metroid 3 for SNES, but I think they've done a fine job of it. I can't get enough of the series.
never did beat that bloody Quadraxis in Echos. Use to piss me off no end. Metroid Prime is still the only Metroid game I've really liked.Yeah, he can be a bastard to beat, but I found the speed-ball guardian much more frustrating. On the order of 10 attempts and a hissy-fit.
Nintendo has a pretty good profile in the UK IMO, although it's focused on the DS for obvious reasons. It's sadly rather hard to find Gamecube stuff nowadays.'Tis a rather depressing situation. I find Gamestation has quite a large selection of 'Cube games mind compared to most places.
Yeah, Quadraxis was pretty easy compared to the Speed Guardian. I dare say that the latter was even more difficult than the Omega Pirate from MP1.never did beat that bloody Quadraxis in Echos.
