Title: further proof that hollywood...
Post by: Turnsky on April 22, 2006, 06:44:19 am
can't do "original" anymore  :wtf:

original (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069113/)
2005 remake  (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419358/) (for TV, mind you, but still!)
2006 remake (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409182/)

not to mention i've heard tell that they're making a scary movie 5
i tell ya, hollywood is now a dead horse the size of manhattan, with thousands of producers all clambering over it, hitting it vigorously with sticks.

There is still hope for Holywood. If we ever see remakes of the true classics, like War of the Worlds, then it is truly a lost cause... hey, wait a minute...

Great, so Gurinder Chadha is to old TV shows as Uwe Boll is to games.

I just saw a preview today of a movie about 9/11. Not a conspiracy theory one or a documentary. Looked like an airplane thriller/emotional film...kinda made me sick. I mean, I know they do movies about other disasters like wars, ships sinking (titanic), and other stuff but I think 5 years after the fact is just not long enough to wait.

A common complaint i've been reading [and hearing], although nobody really seems to mind the fact that American Politicians bring it up at every turn.

2006 remake (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409182/)

I was the trailer for that one a few weeks ago, and was thinking why anbody would want to see a remake of a movie that was bad in its original form ?

Even Ernest "Santini" Borgnine couldn't save this one.

...I do. Not that I want to forget about it or anything, 'cause I'm sorry for the people and their families. The fact is...I'm sick of it being the "reason" for everything we do. It's turned into a propoganda thing.

Although I don't really mind that as MUCH as I mind a (seemingly) suspenseful thriller/blockbuster film based on the events. A documentary I can deal with...

To be totally honest, I haven't actually heard 9/11 brought up as justification in a long time. Implied, perhaps, but not explicitly said.

On the other hand perhaps I'm just not listening.

Well, I haven't followed the news as much lately, but I assumed (dumb, yes) that if Mefustae was seeing it as such a problem that politicians were spouting 9/11 at every turn, then there must have been a problem. I was merely agreeing with him in a twisted sort of way. :D

Can someone explain to me why Flight 93 is too soon when the producers talked to every single family member involved on the plane and got unanimous approval before producing the movie.

I'd even go so far as to say it's not soon enough. People shouldn't forget things like 9/11.

I don't think it's too soon. I think it's a stupid ****in' idea.

And how on Earth is anyone going to forget September 11? I would be really interested to hear someone's theories on this phenomenon.

Deepblue, I don't think that we would be forgetting any time soon, with or without a movie.

It's not the forgetting that is the problem, it's the forgiving, I wonder how far this movie will allow that to happen?

Well, one of the problems with the original one was that the cause was unbelievable (well, so is the ship turning completely upside down and remaining afloat, but still), being the result of
Spoiler:
a tidal wave kicked up by an undersea earthquake in the Meditte...Mediter...that one sea; of course, a tidal wave never reaches that high out at sea, but instead builds up in the shallow water at shore.

This version is supposed to make more use of the freak wave concept (which is actually more than plausible now; a few months before the shooting for the remake took place, something similar happened off of the coast of Georgia with a 70-foot freak wave; the wave in the movie is supposed to be about 100 feet).

Still, it looks like it would be interesting and reasonably good entertainment value, at least.

September 11?  When did that happen?
