Title: Removing HUD elements?
Post by: aldo_14 on May 08, 2006, 11:06:54 am
I realise this may be a rather daft question and is probably a rather simple one with scripting, but it's a rather abstract set of keywords to search for so i'm going to ask anyways; is it possible to remove certain HUD elements permanently?  Namely unused ones; for example the power-balance bars.

EDIT; additionally, are there ways to a) shrink HUD elements as well as reposition and b) hard-fix the FOV.  a) and b) of course both relating to seeing if I can get the HUD to line up with an internal cockpit.

It should be. Bare in mind that if you can't use the energy transfer bars they disappear automatically anyway though :)

What defines being unable to use them?

If you have an unshielded ship the shield one vanishes. I seem to vaguely remember once having a ship with no shields and ballistic primaries and being surprised at the disappearance of the entire ETS item. :) I guess the game figured that since I had no use for weapon or shield energy energy that everything would go to engines.

I haven't tried it since so it's concievable that it was a bug or something. Suppose I should try it again and see what happens :)

On a related note, is there any way to force a HUD element to show up? I would like to use the multiplayer lag gauge for something in one of my missions, but I can't get it to appear with the flash-hud-gauge sexp.

It was intentional. :)

Figured that was the case but seeing as I'd only seen it once I didn't want Aldo pinning all his hopes on it :D
