Well, it's good to see, but I think I ought to point out that it's a lot cheaper to Insure a building if you are enforcing No Smoking rules. ;)

Well, since there are more non-smokers then smokers, it's kinda self-evident...

Didn't Wetherspoons lose business after introducing it's smoking ban?

(not that I give a ****; they're a blot on the landscape anyways, and it's scarcely bad if people are drinking and smoking less.....)

Here in Queensland it's now illegal to smoke in any public place where food or drinks are consumed. No smoking in pubs, bars, resteraunts etc.

Well, he (the link) didn't exactly make a stellar case for the '20 reasons'.  Some of which included 'it's being banned' and 'but other people do it'.

not to mention being wrong on the science of it - ETS exposure does have immediately negative effects - otherwise I wouldn't have trouble breathing and get a headache when exposed

It's like preaching on a soapbox, people have to consume whether they want to or not.....

Atmospheric equivalent of people spilling their pint over you, I think.

splitting their pint on you is merely rude and makes you need a chain of clothes - it doesn't poison you like ETS does

i dont smoke, but with my level of mental instability it would probibly be better if i hastened my death. if somoking has done anything its to increase the genetic immunity to carcinagens. i know this guy hes been smoking for 60 years, used to install asbestos, drinks like a fish, and he was in nam. yet hes managed to live to his 70s.

If they want to prohibit smoking that's cool, I'll just go outside.

Humans are a surprisingly resiliant species for living through some whacked out stuff.  It doesn't mean that another person could do it too...the odd person will buck the odds, beat the trend, and live on.

It's worse than meaningless - it's misleading......

Like the connection between the decline of pirates and global warming?

Well, we would get more emissions-efficent ships, and fewer oil tankers, if we had serious piracy problems.

Actually, come to think of it, we do still have serious piracy problems in parts of the world, mainly areas of the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The Aussies have routinely fitted heavy machineguns to their warships for more then two generations for that very reason. Speedboats are tough to hit with 5" main battery fire.

They're not proper pirates, though.  No cutlasses.
