A) The admins here are probably too busy to moderate your forum for you. Do it yourself. The admins are not your personal assistants.
B) This forum is not a place to sell your products.
C) 99.9% of the people here are busy on their own projects. You're probably the luckiest person in the world if you can grab a talented person to do anything, and you're probably the second luckiest person if you can find anyone who can do anything period. You need to bring something to the table yourself.
D) The Freespace portion of this should go into the General Freespace or Freespace modding sections (probably Freespace modding).

Well then, ask someone who isn't DOING anything.

Don't ask a mod leader. Don't ask a coder.

And for godsakes, don't ask someone who's BOTH!

anyways, no one's allowed to steal Goober5000. He needs to spend as much time as possible on DEM2!

I WANT TO SEE MORE OF THE 47TH RED SHIRTS!

Turey & Unknown Target would you like to be moderators? To the hard-light forums and everything else. Please inform me if you want to be a moderator for the sites. Thank you. :)

Modelers needed for projects

I'm a good modeler, and I might be willing to do some stuff for you once i get a bit farther along with my Stand at Ross 128 (http://tinyurl.com/qs3l9) mod, but right now all my energy is in that project.

No offense, but both of those websites could show a lot of improvement. Obviously tiled backdrounds, overuse of javascript, almost a complete lack of structure...I would suggest working more on both site designs before you start trying to recruit people. Anyone with the kind of experience you're looking for will avoid those sites like the plague.

I can't even navigate past the first page on either site, because I have javascript disabled for sites by default. All you need to do to fix that is use regular hyperlinks instead of an unneccessary javascript.

A.) Where exactly would we get said hardware? Me and other people here are not bottomless pools of money, we have budgets. Especially for me, because there is a pretty steep import tax on foreign brand computer parts.

B.) I'm not doing it for free. I work full time teaching in Nanjing, as well as trying to learn written and spoken chinese (to prepare for the HSK) and also I need to spend time chasing a girl I like. My time is quite limited.

EDIT: And for the record, chasing girls is much more interesting than admining a forum :P

The two eagleclaw's topics have been merged into one.

eagleclaw, I am sorry to say this bluntly but you need to get your feet back on ground and stop daydreaming if you really want these projects of yours to succeed.

1. Do you have all the necessary skills to create a quality site? If not, do you know a few buddies you can trust and who have the skills you lack? If not, forget it.
2. Do you have the basic idea what makes your site different from the countless of others out there? What do you use to get people interested in your site?
3. You need to have everything finished before starting to recruit people. Unfinished or bad quality will not help your cause.

You have but miniscule chance of recruiting some staff if you don't have the three basic things backing you up. Again, sorry to say this bluntly but what you showed us was no better than what a generic 12-year old l33t-wannabe -type would have shown. Your sites don't have any credibility.

If you really put some effort into this and plan things through, you just might someday get something done that could potentially compete against other similar sites out there. But that day is not today I'm afraid.

I recently looked at the sssgraphics forum, and to be honest it looks a lot like the HardOCP forums. Also something you really need to understand is that the reviews for tom's hardware guide, hardocp and all these other tech sites don't work for free, and their equipment isn't free either.

and their equipment isn't free either.
Testing platforms aren't, but the hardware they are testing often are. But they need to send the hardware back to manufacturer after tests.

Still though, these projects need to have something to offer, something that sets them apart from other things like HardOCP, but I am just not seeing it at the moment. Without something that really makes it worth my time to participate, I'll just stick to chasing chinese girls. :p

I guess if you guys don't like it tough, its the eye of the beholder that counts right! If you guys do have suggusts thats okay but don't expected me to site back and you guys and gales will critise it. That's a bouch of horse****.  Sorry about the comments but some of you need to grow up. And Ashrak, didn't critis me because you just have a logo.
Sorry again, your very p***** off- eagleclaw

"hey none of you know me but you all run my site for me, it's in the programing language of HTML and I want to do nebulous things like something to do with hardware or something, and I want you to do all the work for me on a site no one visits!!!"

I'm sorry but with what you came here with any atacks on you are not back stabing, there more like front stabing, now you probly had no idea how you were sounding, but you just voiped in from nowere and asked a bunch of people who have spent the last six years working on there own site/forum spending there money spilling there blood to basikly run your site for you, in this comunity what generaly happens is someone set's up a site gets it running more or less on there own, attracts some users, asks in there own forum or on there own site if someone would like to help, they don't assume the leaders of another site is going to drop there own thing and come over, usualy they get mostly people who are relitively unheard of, they hire them on and the site is built up over time.

don't get pissy with us because  we reacted appropriately to your presumptuous attude.

This thread is teh lolz.

Anyway, seriously. Fix the site, get your own user base, and moderate your own forums. Then start asking for help. Think about it; even if you did hire someone from here, what would they moderate? I don't think anyone is registered on your forum.

Working on the site still. Dumped two of the sites and made it into one. And one forum.
Thanks for the help "Unknown Target". But if you guys can't read this one too bad.  P.S. This is Alaskan based website. And we like everything simple. Plus easy to read and navigate though them. I also have about 3 members on the forums. If you want a good laugh try this site: http://www.homestead.com/dean_cad/home.html
My new site is named: www.sssfxgraphics.net and coming soon.

For some reason that background reminds me of my bathroom counter....

Easy to navigate, OK, but when running that in any res higher than 1024-768, there's a ton of blank space on the right..

ok eagleclaw, here's my thoughts on your site.  please keep in mind I'm trying to offer up some constructive criticism and some thoughts and advice to improve what your doing.

two comments on how to not annoy people and not get a team of RIAA layers chasing you.

First, I don't think the majority of the people here would appreciate you listing HLP as a "Hosted Site."  A simple change of word to "Recommended Sites" will go along way here.

Secondly, I personally find background music on websites to be annoying, and beyond that, I'm willing to bet you definatly don't have the rights to use that song.  And seeing how on the same page you have link to buy things from you...tis not a good combination to keep you safe from lawyers.  so take it down, and your wallet will thank you.

ok, those major things aside, let me see if i can offer a few other comments to help you improve your site.  The design is dated, and is honestly why people here are thinking that your not serious about your intent.  now, I'm no webdesigner, and my attempts in the past have met with horrible ends, so i do understand that its hard when your starting out to get it right.  but I have been doing everything i can to improve them, and hope to have a much better go around on my next site i attempt, as its been awhile.  I recomend the book "How to design the Coolest Website in Cyberspace" by Nick Nettleton.  its got lots of great design tips and how tos and is a very simple read.  its a great resource to start.  plus also look into http://www.good-tutorials.com (http://www.good-tutorials.com) which has lots of good website layouts that you can use and adapt.  its mainly for photoshop, and I've learned so much from them.

My biggest tip is to look at corporate websites, and ones like HLP that have been around for awhile.  take inspiration and read as much about web design as you can.  cause if your comming to the big guys here for help, they expect, and rightfully so, a certain level of professionalism and commitment.  Cause they don't know you or what your about.  and they want to be associated with things that they believe in, and its hard when your site isn't appealing to  them.  If you do the work and the research, and make your site as awesome as you humanly can, then you can really start making a name for your site, and you'll accomplish what you want.  thats the plain simple truth to it.  Your site has to be a place where people want to be, and it hasn't made it there yet.  but you've come to the right place, and I'm sure that there's lots of people here who can offer more advice on how to go about making a great website.  And when your done, and have made something thats truely unique and great looking, you'll be happier to.  Feel free to pm me if you want advice on design or what have you, just keep in mind i'm no pro, and have little to no experience in coding.

oh, and one last tip.  Most everyone here isn't out to get you, and as long as your calm and can take the criticism and act apon it, I think you'll find that people are willing to offer advice where they can, and help you out.  thats always been my experience here.  But you have to make it happen yourself, cause man, you can't ask anyone to do something you wouldn't do.

So, with that unintentionally lengthy bit of dialogue done, I wish you the best of luck!

The design sucks. It looks like something out of 1995, and designed in Frontpage at that. Just my opinion but I'm sure it's shared by quite a few people.

Just thought I tell you. I changed Hosted Sites to Affiliate Sites is that better. Plus in the home page  it tells Alaskan people like things simple to move around in. And what do you want me to do with the background? Get ride of it. Keep a white bg. Anything else, please tell me. But the title is there, I'm not changing it.

HLP is not an affiliate site.

Also, your sites have been disabled by homestead. Did you try to run a commercial site from an ISP's free hosting space? Cause they frown on that...

yeah, absolutely.  I like what you did with the buttons as well, much simpler and less gaudy.  good improvement.  out of all your pages, the LINKS page looks the most coheisive, and the only thing reall at is placement of links, I'd recomemend keeping them all on the white if possible (it could be an aspect ratio issue, not a design on).  But on the whole, i think that page has the best look of all your pages.  So i would carry the look of that page through out your site.  The placement of the buttons, the font, it all work rather well, and using that as the starting point, you'll have a much more functional and better looking site.  it'll load faster too if your using common elements between pages as well.  Keep up the improvements, its looking better all the time.

i like the buttons at the top.

they look nice.

you might want the change the name of the "Too new members" section of the forum. You can get rid of one of the o's.

in fact, I'd restructure the whole forums. I'd do it like this:

Welcome to sssfxgraphics
---News and Annoucements
---24-Hour Chat Club
---To New Members
---Members Area

StoreFront
---SSSGraphics StoreFront
---StoreFront FAQ

3D Modeling & Mod Devlopment
---Firespace: War & Peace
---Projects/Mods

Computer-Related Stuff
---Amd vs Intel
---Operating Systems
---General Graphics
---Photoshop Projects
---Photoshop Tutorials
---Games and Gaming

Other Stuff
---Dish & Directv
---Favorite Shark
---Stories

This moves the more relevant areas to the top, and the less-used areas to the bottom.

EDIT: I'd also take your contact info off the front page, replace it with a link called "Contact me." the actual name of the contact page should be obscure, something like www.sssfxgraphics.net/howtocomplain.html as opposed to www.sssfxgraphics.net/contact.html. make all the links to howtocomplain.html read "Contact me.", but have the actual page name be howtocomplain.html. This should cut doen on spam sent to the email address you listed.
