It is official, Vegemite is banned in the US.

Well, screw you too!
-
How deliciously ironic.
Well, maybe not...
-
I want to be arrested for smugleing in vegimite.
-
it sounds like some goddamn explosive
-
What the ****?
-
is it tasty?
now that its banned i have this overwhelming urge to get my hands on some.
-
Whoopi Goldberg described it as 'like licking a cats' bum', though was never forthcoming about how she knew....
Interesting fact about Marmite (which, I stress, is NOT vegemite, it's sort of like its 'Curry Powder' if people see what I mean?)
A great 'Lateral Thinker' suggested that we send it to the Middle East because all that unleavened bread was causing a yeast deficiency, which was leading to the sectarian violence. This is true. As one comedian pointed out, you'd just end up getting a war over those who loved it and those who hated it ;)
Personally, I've never tried Vegemite, but I do like some Marmite on cheese and toast :D I'm now hungry.
-
The Vegemites?! They've invaded already?! That wasn't supposed to happen for another ten ye--
Oh, it's a spread?
Haha. *cough cough*
Just go about your business, folks.

:wtf:
Can someone explain what the problem is with folic acid in something other than bread/cereal?

The invention of vegemite was mankind's finest hour. It is unquestionably the greatest food on the planet. This is perhaps the ultimate stupidity the American government has perpetuated in history.
In fact, I'm going to go eat some right now.
-
I have never ever heard of Vegemite.
-
and yet McDonalds keeps on going.....
-
I have never ever heard of Vegemite.
Just go hang around in Australia, and eventually someone will hand you a Vegemite sandwich.
It's like, a law or something.
-
it could of been worse it could be "food of the gods" Marmite - all hail the yeasty goodness :D
-
Ugh, I hate vegemite. :doubt:
-
But why is it illegal? :wtf:
-
Because it's written there, in black and white. The simple fact a law doesn't make any sense has never been more than a bump in the road for the great law establishments of our time ;)
-
I thought it was because folic acid supports terrorism, Osama Bin Laden, communism, atheism, divorce, contraception, and butsecks.

Then you are unpatriotic and have allowed the anti-Australian terrorists to win. :p

No, that's DVD piracy. Watch any DVD and you'll see.

Dammit, suddenly I have Men At Work's "A Land Down Under" blaring in my head! :p
EDIT: Quoted from wikipedia: "In October 2006, the Melbourne Herald Sun reported that vegemite is banned in the USA, with Customs officials going so far as to even search Australians for Vegemite when they enter the country. However, no official statement from the Food and Drug Administration or any other US government agency has been made specifically banning yeast extract products. Some believe that this is a misunderstanding."
Can anyone back this up?

Folic acid can mask the signs of B-12 deficiency, which can cause severe nerve damage (among other things.) I can see why they did what they did, but it seems a little paranoid to me...
-
Vegemite is the one of the world's best sources of Vitamin B (Including B-12 IIRC), so that's a somewhat flawed argument.
