Title: George W. pushing the envelope on US spying
Post by: Unknown Target on January 05, 2007, 09:31:45 pm
"W pushes envelope on U.S. spying"
Quote
WASHINGTON - President Bush has quietly claimed sweeping new powers to open Americans' mail without a judge's warrant, the Daily News has learned.

The President asserted his new authority when he signed a postal reform bill into law on Dec. 20. Bush then issued a "signing statement" that declared his right to open people's mail under emergency conditions.

...under emergency conditions.
I think history has shown us that handing considerably more power to ones leadersfor use when under "emergency conditions" never has good consequences.

Wait, so is it only OK if he personally opens them? That would be fun, actually.

"Mr. Cheney, tell them to stop with the letter! I can't be the Prezident no more if ah have to spend all day reading folk's mail. Ah know we have to find ter'rists, but could ah maybe take a break?"

*Sends a suspicious letter through the mail*

*Mail searcher opens it*

To whom it may concern:

STOP READING MY MAIL WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!

Sincerely,
Tyrian
