this is for games when it wasnt all heavy corperate stuff like EA or Microsoft and Ubisoft.
that means the year 2k and below to 1982, the 3 most fun games you have ever played.
1. Forsaken: launching a lot of nukes down a corridor killing enemies left right and center then watching the explosion come back and missiles flying out of the explosion that was fun
2. Biomenace: throwning grenades in the water and watching body parts of the mutants fly about :mad2:
3. Midtown Madness: escaping the cops on a checkpoint race, i pulled up the clutch let the car slide on the grass, the cops hit me gave me more upmh!, dropped the clutch then flawed it, while looking in the rear view mirror the cop cars were all in a heap caught in other cars, trucks, busses and a traffic light post :P
-
Lets see... 2000 and older...
1. Freespace 2
2. Deus Ex
3. Half-Life
...
Maybe you should make it, like before 1995 or something.
-
i think 7 years is pretty old for game years, in game maker years 7 years is like 1000 years old. i think there classic enough, but your games are classic but im also looking for games that are the most fun you played from 2000 and below?
-
You know, EA wasn't always a corporate menace. They made some pretty good games way way back when - Archon, Archon 2, Mule, Mail Order Monsters, 7 Cities of Gold, the Bard's Tales, wasteland.
-
1) Homeworld 1
2) Freespace 2
3) Lucas' Art's Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffae
4) Jane's WWII Fighters
-

3. Midtown Madness:
:wtf: :P
BTW:
1. Falcon 3 (and don't tell me you couldn't think of this by me :P)
2. Fleet Command
4. X-Wing Alliance
-
Dsysko, is that Jane's Fleet Command? :) I have that game. It was alright, but a tad too slow (and the interface was rubbish).
-
Yes, it's Jane's Fleet Command.
If you haven't already done so, check this (http://forums.nws-online.net/showthread.php?s=1f5792deda2b973506deb9d4ab3aa691&t=29). It will add tons of other ships and aircrafts, but be aware that it's not backward-compatible with the original Fleet Command missions and campaigns.
Huh... I just noticed that a new version of the NWP has come out. I have still to try that.
-
"Most fun". Okay I vote for Scorched Earth.
-
Descent (can't believe no one said this yet)
-
Wrong catagory. That's "most nausiating".
I spelt that last word incorrectly but can't be bothered to look it up.
-
Do you consider Sonic Team to be "heavy corporate stuff"? ::)
If not, Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
-
This would be Sega mascot Sonic? Or some other Sonic I haven't been previously aware of, who just co-incidentally has a friend called Knuckles? I believe this would determine the answer to your questions.
-
Yes, but if you'd consider Sonic games to be "heavy corporate stuff" then games like Half-Life and Homeworld aren't exactly... "light corporate stuff"! :blah:
-
"Most fun". Okay I vote for Scorched Earth.
I second that!!!
Also any Monkey Island game to, but especially the third one ("Madre de Dios! Es el Pollo Diablo" allways cracks me up!!!)
-
1. Tyrian
2. Curse of Monkey Island
3. Duke Nukem/ROTT
-
2000 is not all that old by my standards. :p I think all but one of the games I listed in the top 10 thread were from 2000 or earlier.
-
Deux Ex, baby. It never gets old.
-
Yes, but if you'd consider Sonic games to be "heavy corporate stuff" then games like Half-Life and Homeworld aren't exactly... "light corporate stuff"! :blah:
the arguement of come and get me i want a fight, to bad i can see through that ploy. if you read my first post correctly ghostavo instead of attacking on a personal vendetta, is that the word all.

Jesus, man, learn to play the game!
When someone blatantly baits you, you can go ahead and call him on it. But when someone misreads one of your posts and tries to give you some **** about it - as Ghost seems to have done - you're supposed to highlight his mistake and ridicule him in a jovial and lighthearted manner, not take the damn bait and act like you're completely up yourself.
Back OT, i'm going to second that any game in the Sonic series [or, at least Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles] was too damn fun to be legal. :p
-
good start, good. looks like you beat me to it ghostavo, but mufuste i dont see where the problem is???¿¿¿
-
Okay, now for some more serious ones:
1) Tyrian
2) Scorched Earth
3) Commander Keen 4
@Rictor: Deus Ex is a crazy good game. But it gets boring after playing it for the third time in a week :shaking:
And I do think 2000 is a bit recent, given I could barely play more recent games up until about April.
-
ok, them 1996 to 1982
-
good start, good. looks like you beat me to it ghostavo, but mufuste i dont see where the problem is???¿¿¿
The problem is that you argue and type like you're dyslexic. And if you are, then you argue and type like you've got the attitude of a steroid-abusing football player.
And here's another game; Commander Keen baby! :D One of the best games ever! :D
-
FreeSpace 2
DooM 1/2
Duke 3D
-
Thief I.
-
Sonic N
Lemmings
Commander Keen
Sim City 2000
Freespace 1 (!)
-

only thats your stupid view and i dont see why you should complain your typing is not much better either so really nullifies your point so why say it?. are you going to put 3 games in from 1996 and below? if not then shut up and keep that opinion to yourself.
typical i always regret doing this like saying 'shut up', and what really pisses me off is people just shout thier mouths off for no reason, yes you unknown target, why do that? whats the fun in it? i dont see the fun in it.
-
I'd go for Syndicate Wars and the Crusader series.
Persuade the entire city and arm them all with Miniguns...
-
EVE-online :p
think it was in beta in 2000
-
Harpoon Classic
X-COM 2: Terror From the Deep
Steel Panthers III
-

Wow...
I have absolutly no words... well, perhaps a few.
I was replying to IPAndrews
Also, despite what you may think, replying is not attacking! :wtf:
Anyway what I meant was, the gaming industry always had some corporations mucking about. Tetris is a well known example of it, sure it might have been one guy that made it, but look at the legal stuff that happened afterwards.
-
X-Com, C&C95
-

Centrixo, stop it. Behave yourself or you'll be banned again. Consider this another of those "warnings" you say you never got.
-
fine.
-
I was about to offer a witty retort, but I see you have already been warned, so I shall not. :)
EDIT: Bah, not worth it.

Don't feed.

Super Mario Kart battle mode. Never, ever, gets old.

Super Mario Kart battle mode. Never, ever, gets old.
Got to agree, that's one of those few games with Gameplay that never gets old.
-
X-Com
Right I've landed my VTOL plane. Now to get all my troops out. A wait, an alien just wandered up and threw a grenade into the plane. Now everyone is dead. That was fun :-). Masochist. Don't get me wrong it's one of the best games ever made. Just not exactly fun IMHO.

Hehe.. I'll have to agree there. It's good fun too, but the masochistic aspect of fun rears it's ugly head many a time in all the X-Com games.
Super Mario Kart battle mode. Never, ever, gets old.
I think I literally spent weeks of my childhood playing Mario Kart battle mode on the snes back in the day. Good times :)
-
My favorite games were:
Turn based:
Master of Orion 2
Conquest of the New World
Power Chess
Everything else:
Death Rally
Duke Nukem: I, II, and 3D
Wacky Wheels :D

Save and save often... and hope your save file doesn't get corrupted. ;)
-
Whoa ... I guess I am one on the oldest ones here! But what is the definition of CLASSIC.....Are we talking: arcade, console or PC...Kudos to the one who said...C&C.. But fun classics:Castle Wolfenstein.Doom,S o Fortune, Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 series..F*** Pac-Man,the Atari sh-t.. Way early The first Warcraft and Like engines ie Dune, C&C..Yeah comparativlly there crap but thats where stuff started my first comp was a Tandy, and commodore 64....Did I say I was older? But my all time favs are Spy craft, Hitmanand can't forget...the IMMORTAL SPY HUNTER..wow i am old..

Yeah, I "cheated" and saved after every turn... and sometimes after every shot. One of these days I'll go back and replay it the real-life way. :)
-
Most fun? Hmmm... Crash Team Racing (was that pre 2000? I don't remember), Theme Park and Tetris. Oh, if CTR is post 2000, put Hot Rod 2 in its place. I would say ZZT, but there was more fn in modding that than actually playing it.[color]
-
If we're looking at only 1996 or earlier now, then Lemmings, Descent 2 and C&C, in that order. Mission Critical would get an honorable mention though. The deep story and immersive atmosphere were among the best I've seen.
-
Harpoon Classic.
Sir, the Enterprise has detected:
12x SS-N-12 SANDBOX.
Method: VISUAL.
:eek2:

I don't think I've ever seen anything remotely like that happen, even in TFTD, which is MUCH more difficult.

Yay! SPYHUNTER FTW!
I liked games such as Attic Attac and Manic Miner on the Spectrum. Mystic Mansion, Track and Field and Knightmare on the Commodore 64 and the original Tombraider literally blew me away when it was released (literally :drevil: ;7).
see Tamlin, you're not alone as an oldie here
-
Hmmm. considering my first ever game was Chess on a TRS80, I'm not saying a word.
-
"RIGHT ON"!
-
Games were more fun early in gaming's history because you couldn't disguise a poor game design behind flashy graphics and presentation.
-

I've never beat TFTD, is it even possible? I'd usually give up after shooting the lobster alien like 37 times and he'd still slaughter my entire team...
-
The three games I played on the PC when I got them, and I mean constantly were Doom, Descent and System Shock. Those would have to be my favorite old-school (well, getting there) games. Descent 1/2, Doom 1/2, System Shock 1. 2 was good, but in a different way. 1 wasn't as creepy as 2 was, but it was excellent nonetheless.
-

I'm not sure myself. I've learned that TFTD ramps up the difficulty on you quickly if you do very well, though, so perversely losing half your squad every once in awhile keeps things manageable.
I did once have a save where I was just short of going to the final level, but then the game stopped working for me and I had to reinstall, which wiped it clean.
And the Lobstermen are a pain. I work on and off on a strategy guide for TFTD...well, this pretty much sums up my opinion: "You will learn to hate these critters just as I have. 3+ Sonic Rifle hits can be required to drop one, or 7+ Gauss rifle shots, 18+ Gauss pistol shots, or as many as five Sonic Pulsers. Yes, they are indeed that good at absorbing more fire then they have any right to. "
-
Indeed, I may have to try the "lose squad members" strategy.. maybe even tonight... :nervous:
-
DOOM
FS1
Dune 2
-
Glider Pro.

The problem is, if TFTD is anything like XCom, it takes a long time to train up decent men. Losing one is a real setback. So how about this. Take along some useless low stat rookies as cannon fodder. Have them take point all the time whilst your experienced guys follow behind and mop up.
-
The biggest problem in TFTD is that there are holes in the research tree, which can easily put you into an unwinnable dead end. Then you have to restart the game and keep a close eye on the cheat sheet so you don't research yourself into a corner. :sigh:
-
It's Super mario World for me, good old SNES yay......

Really? I had no idea it was that bad. I wonder how many hours I wasted trying to fight off lobstermen while I researched in circles. I seem to remember having researched everything (or so I thought) once, but I thought I needed to find some item or alien to progress further, but gave up when I had no luck.. this was ages ago though. Hmm.

Ya. This page has a good explanation of the various pitfalls:

Don't research the Tasoth Commander and you're golden AFAIK.
-
TIE Fighter.
Outcast.
Strike Commander. It was my first PC game, so that was played a lot.

Hmm, cool thanks guys. I'll steer clear of the glitches. Shame MicroProse didn't do as superb of a job with TFTD and other X-Com games as they did with the original. A lot of people have tried to re-make and re-live that dream with mods, etc.
-
I'm guessing Julian Gallop was lost somewhere along the line, and along with that, the heart of XCom was lost.
-
'Tis a shame. :(
-
There's Xenocide, which was a X-COM 1 remake somebody on sourceforge was doing, but I don't know if it's still going.
-
Heh, I just had a flashback to playing Pong on the Binatone, I'd forgotten about that, it also had this rather simplistic shooting game which was fun :)
-

Appears to be little activity since mid-2006?

1.) MOO2
2.) C&C 2 red alert
3.) duke nuckem

I've been following this closely, and I've already managed to get the Magnetic Ion Armor and the M.C. Lab.. but I think I might've screwed myself because I researched Zbrite or something without having any Sub Construction.. but I'll have to double check. Also, I tend to buy extra troops and send them into the slaughter every couple of missions, so I haven't had to deal with truckloads of lobstermen yet. *phew!*
-
Wow, okay, so the alien colonies or bases are freakin' ridiculous. I barely eliminated all the aliens on the surface without taking too many losses, but I got down below and my entire squad got rocked by lobster men and floating brains that turn you into zombie thingies. Guess I won't try to take it out until I have molecular control, or I'll just have to accept losing the majority of my squad. :doubt:
-
Behold the fun of X-Com
-
Alright,
Hungry Horace
Delta Wing
Volcan Planet
...and others whose name I don't remember any more!
The Great Giana Sisters (Commodore 64, gotta love the music)
Boulder Dash
Archon
Ikari Warriors
Turrican
Falcon 3.0 Gold (countless hours wasted playing this one)
Anyone here playing Falcon 4.0? I'm suprised so few modern games have dynamic campaigns. If they could manage to put this in first person shooters maybe I would find them interesting also...
F-15 Strike Eagle III
Gunship 2000 (I didn't really like Jane's Longbow)
Wing Commander I & II (surprised that nobody mentioned this, I never managed to find WGIII)
Molez (great multiplayer game, during college we had four persons sitting behind one keyboard playing this)
Duke Nukem 3D (there is XP compatibility mod including graphics improvements)
Dune II
Descent I and II
Leisure Suit Larry (deserves a mention as a classic on the grounds of captivating many pubelescent males and forever ruining their lives)
Willy Beamish
Monkey Island series
One Must Fall 2097
Then realizes something...
//Simpsons voice on
I've wasted my life
//Simpsons voice off
Actually NOT! It's surprising how much you can do if you don't watch TV so much...

I play Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. No joystick, but I manage.
-
WORMS!
-
Yeah, that one too.
The first Worms and Worms+ were good. I never liked the graphics of the following releases. Molez was this kind of game also, but instead of self destruction, the moles disintegrated quite colorfully.
Mika
-
Freespace 1 and 2, especially 2.
Descent 1 and 2, especially 2. :p
Starcraft
Super Mario Brothers 3 (I spent hours on that game.)
There were also numerous hacked or pirated versions of 'Mario' that I enjoed immensely as a kid, one had Mario with a hammer, one had him turn into a ball/kangaroo...
Mrs. Pacman
Dragonball Z Super Butoden 2
Tetris - way back when my country had 8-10 hour blackouts daily, THIS was the only way to pass the time.
There was also a game for an Atari console I once had (forgot which model) which was basically a hide and seek game.
-
Going back to my ZX Spectrum days:
1. Elite
2. Jetpack (but NEVER the sequel)
3. Chuckie Egg
Nothing outstanding that I remember on the Atari ST apart from Elite Gold (filled polygons, OH YEAH).
Early PC stuff (joined the bandwagon fairly late):
1. Baldurs Gate
2. System Shock 2
3. Dungeon Keeper (don't remember if it was 1 or 2)
-
Ah, Jetpack
I remember playing that one too. I never knew if there was a way to "win" the game.

It was the EIGHTIES, you very rarely 'won' games. You just kept getting higher scores until you ran out of lives or you got cramp!
