Title: A missing voice line?
Post by: Goober5000 on October 21, 2007, 01:41:15 am
In SM1-04, "A Lion at the Door", I could have sworn that the same pilot who says "Send in the Carthage or get us out of here!" also says "Glad to see the cavalry could make it!" when the Carthage finally arrives.  Yet when I looked at the mission just now, that line is nowhere to be found.  Am I imagining things or does anyone else remember that line?  Was it removed in the patch from 1.0 to 1.2, perhaps?

Never heard. Been playing 1.2, so no experiences concerning 1.0.

There's no voice acting for the line in the VP either as far as I could see.

The line is from La Ruota Della Fortuna in FS1.

The line is from La Ruota Della Fortuna in FS1.

Voice files are oftentimes recycled(ACX...).

I don't have the audio, but I remember that line. I noticed it when I was listening at random voice files of the VP. It's just my impression, but...I think there are other missing voice lines(without considering that famous multiplayer mission).

FS1 lines are rarely recycled into FS2 if at all, since there is more audio noise (interference) in the FS1 messages.

That's not an interference, that's a signal!

Goober, do you want to modify the mission so that the message is sent? I'm curious...

Interference as in a bit of background static.

Which was good. In Ace Combat there are sound effects in messages. Explosions, engines...

In FreeSpace I can't hear explosions in messages coming from exploding ships...

*facepalms*

I said:

This means that having FS1 messages in FS2 isn't good because you can tell that they are FS1 .wavs because of the increased static.

Ah, yeah, sorry :nervous:

But sometimes we don't pay so much attention on messages. "Stop laughing there, copilot!" reminds you something? ;)

Glad to see the cavalry could make it is used in FS1 when the Galatea jumps in in La Ruota Della Fortuna.

The line is from La Ruota Della Fortuna in FS1.
I'm aware of that (in fact, the reason I checked the FS2 mission was because I'm currently playing through the FS1 campaign).  I thought it was used in FS2 too.

Does nobody have a 1.0 version they could check?

Huh?

Huh?

Are you going to add that message or not?

It's not really missing. Either it was never really there in the first place or it was removed by :v: in the 1.0 to 1.2 patch. In which case there's no real reason why we should put it back.

I see. Its presence isn't necessary. I thought Goober was asking for a "permission" or something like that :)

Check the version logs... I have the readme on this computer.

I remember that line about sending in the Carthage from 1.0.  I don't have 1.0 anymore, but I played with 1.0 for years (up until very recently) so I've played through each mission multiple times on 1.0. I'm not sure if the Glad to see the cavalry could make it from that mission, though, based on the mission itself, it very well could have been.

Mission 3-7 is Dunkerque Not A Lion at the Door

I notice that they did add the failure debrief. How **** do you have to be to lose the Dashor or Carthage in that mission? :D

I thought 3-7 meant 3 through 7.

I'd say all of those lines speak against that being the meaning. The first two are strange (who'd say I fixed problems in missions 2 to 1 and mission 2 to 2?) and the last three refer to ships not present in all the missions mentioned those mission ranges, especially the one about the Agrippa, which isn't in missions 3 to 5 at all.

The messages do make sense if those are the mission numbers though as SM3-5 is Argonautica which features the Agrippa.
