I keep hearing people mention "the new mediaVPs". what are they? whats in them? why do i have a feeling that Mobius will reply first? :D
-
You know, I bet know one knows beside SCP staff, and a few others.
Oh and your wrong, Mobius is not the first one to reply.
-
Which ones do you have? 3.6.8 Zeta? OK, if so, then get the latest 3.6.10 engine pre-release (Source Code Project > Recent Builds), and get the Normal Map pack with it.
-
i have like 3.6.9 or somethin....... i know its the most recent build though.
-
So basically what jr2 said. Get the newest build from this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,50258.0.html) and extract to your \freespace\folder, then select the fs2_open_3_6_10-20071028T.exe with the Launcher. Next, get the normal maps from this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,49939.0.html) and extract to your mediavps folder.
Then, in the Launcher's Features tab, check Enable normal maps from the Graphics drop menu and add -height to the Custom flags field. Run and enjoy.
Confused yet? No? I can sound even more disturbing if necessary.

Neither was Snail.
But the new generation of spammers will continue our legacy (yes, I mean you, Hades :P).
-
does this mean i have to completely install scp again? and for both of those, what do i click?

Why do I have the feeling that you're the most childish member of this community? :P
MediaVPs require certain FS Open builds. The Media VPs 3.6.9 will require FS Open 3.6.9(I think), we all have that build. I had problems of uncopatability in the past.
-
*sigh*... behind the first link you click Windows build, behind the second link you click Normal map test pack. The normal maps are in a single vp that you have to extract from the .rar to your mediavps folder. The executables in the Windows build are like your fs2_open_3_6_9.exe and the rest. Those are to be extracted to your root freespace directory. Then you just select the correct build from the Launcher like you did the first time you ran FSO. You don't reinstall anything. You just add something.
-
Correct... but do create a new pilot file (eg, Hades_3_6_10 or something... just in case).
-
dang....... i just got "leutenit commander" (whooo, bad grammar!) 4 days ago! (i know thats not much, but i just made a new guy in september for SCP)
-
Well, if you don't want him corrupted, then make a new one. :p
-
Yeah, if you're not careful, your pilot might start hanging around with the wrong crowd. Then, sooner or later he'll start taking bribes for not shooting down certain hostile ships and there you have it: he has become corrupt.
-
but im the pilot..... aw crap :shaking:
-
At least you're not deleted, just removed.
-
hasn't someone written something so i can transfer my data to each upgraded build?
-
Why do I have the feeling that you're the most childish member of this community? :P
Because he's the youngest.
-

Just create the ****ing new pilot. You don't need to delete the old one, just don't play 3.6.10 with it if you want to avoid corruption.

stop being so mean. :( :p
but wont it overwrite the old open files like it does to retail, thus making it so i cant use him again?
-
Who's the mature one here, Lobo? :wtf:

I'm not mean. I'm just edgy since you refuse to listen to reason even after the third time.
but wont it overwrite the old open files like it does to retail, thus making it so i cant use him again?
No. If you play, say, Jedi Outcast and save the game, then save the game again, the new one doesn't overwrite the old one. The same goes for the FS pilots. Nothing gets overwritten unless you demand so. Which you probably won't.

What I said on the first line. If Titan doesn't listen even on the third time, it makes at least me feel frustrated when I'm trying to help but he ignores the advice. I can be as calm as a giant sloth on marijuana, when necessary. But even my patience has limits.

We can always use more of those in our forum political debates. ;)
If you are surprised that this guy doesn't do what you say for the third time, then reconsider posting. Bad for your blood pressure. Your physician recommends that you avoid Titan threads.

A Guinness a day keeps the doctor away. But yeah, I'll concentrate my more or less helpful advice on the polite and understanding people from now on.

I don't think it's a logic consequence...a young person should behave well... :P

Here we say Mela(Apple) instead of Guinness

[lightblue=color]The same principle is applied to whoever hates colored posts.[/color]

Only if you select it and try to play with it. You know, you could keep you Retail pilot, if you didn't select him from FSO and upgrade him. :p
-
ok... now, to get 3.6.10........ SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET
EDIT: question: why do they get corrupted anyways? isn't the pilot file still written (or something) exactly the same?
-
Yes, indeed, but it should be written different... something.
-
The corruption is a problem that arises when mods aren't optimized for the same version of FSO (I believe). This will be fixed in a later release of FSO. Or is it 3.6.10?
-
How come I can use my old pilots from 3.6.9 in 3.6.10 without corruption but no one else can?
-
Everyone can, I think, it's when you try to use .10 pilots in .9 when the problem arises.
-
Pilot files in the stable branch builds are compatible with each other (regardless of whether it's 3.6.9 or 3.6.10). But pilots in HEAD builds are not compatible with pilots in stable builds, and vise versa (NOTE: the version number does NOT indicate whether it's a stable or HEAD build!!). So long as you keep to using the same build type (stable or HEAD) per pilot then you shouldn't have any corruption. That is true for stable branch builds only though, any pilot used with current HEAD builds is going to be totally incompatible with future HEAD builds (since the format will change and the upgrade path will be for stable branch pilots only).
There are some exceptions, with bugs in the pilot file code, that might mess up your loadout data but not actually corrupt your pilot. But generally you won't have any problems so long as you don't mix build types with the same pilot.
