Title: How soon is soon?
Post by: Haliwali on December 08, 2007, 11:53:29 am
On the main site you said multiplayer suuport would be out soon.  Is this next week or next month?
By the way, will there be actual cockpit models in the full game?

They are working on it and from what Ive seen looks great so far, hope they are able to make it work. Im sure if it all works out they'll make an official announcement about it.

I can't wait myself I finally broke down and bought a new computer now I need some thing cool to play on it with my friends.  Guys we gonna get to Mace each other in some multiplayer battles?  Curious on if we are gonna get any new ships or get to fly as kilrathi online.

Well, without saying too much:
Would it be a great multiplayer experience if you couldn't fly as Kilrathi?  ;)

About the "soon": Don't expect it to come out next week, but it will be really soon. :)

Here some little math.
About 5+ years ago we said lets do the mod. 4 years ago we said soon it will be released...now calculate soon.

Ok just kidding ^_^
We have playtested it allready and its quite some fun even if the test I played where Confed VS Confed only.
We are trying to figure out some last bugs with it. For example I had the possibility to load my Arrow with 8 Torpedos !
Bugs like that have to be taken care of first as you might understand. MP balancing is allso an issue.

I can assure you: Everybody here does his best. We thank you for the support and the patience and we will get this thing done as soon as possible.
And always remember: It doesn't matter if something is released a month earlier or later, as long as it has the quality the people out there expect.

I think this dev team has done an absolutely remarkable job given it is all volunteers with a substantial amount of real life to deal with.

I have only a microscopic piece of this and I find it hard enough to get the work done.

People need to realize that this product is NOT free. It costs time and patience.

Exaclty.

Tolwyn, about that patch.
- Bugfixes?
- Balancing?
- Multiplayer?

I still think the Saga Capships are way to dangerous. That Carnaven Frigade in Prologue Mission 2 for example is more dangerous than all of the pirate fighters and my torpedo doesn't even knock it out.

Do you think so? I agree its hard but I take that as a challange!
Still I think I can confirm at least the first two point have been worked on. Also some other little changes.

Looks like your torpedo was shot down right before or on impact.

Balancing changes include:

- AI missile usage
- hull and shield hit points on capital ships. Hulls have become more vulnerable and shields more durable.
- species_def.tbl upgrade (replaces 'Vasudan' with 'Pirate', 'Shivan' with 'Kilrathi')
- several small tweaks including color change of radar dots (friendlies are now blue, just like in Wing Commander)

Bugfixes changes include

- autopilot upgrade
- full usage of DDS advantages
- hard coded death screams
- more taunts
- several smaller issues, that you have not noticed in the initial release. :)

We will also include optimized effects (require less memory), additional voice overs, normal maps (for fighters at the very least!) and, probably, at least one new ship. :)

Please note, that the above list is by no means complete. I just can't think of anything else at the moment! :)

The frigate is no problem, you just have to use the right tactic. (ok, still it isn't easy to destroy, but: It is a FRIGATE! It wouldn't exist if it was that easy to destroy! Capships like in WC1 are ridiculously easy to destroy. By a light fighter!! Nobody would build a capship that can be destroyed by ONE freakin' Hornet! )
And your torpedo does kill it. You just have to make sure there isn't any turret on this side left (turrets kill torpedoes very fast, even if you fire the torpedo from short distance.)

Another tactic could be to search for the right spot to fire it at. Also firing torpedos from a close range can get you to close to the blast of your own torpedo and get you killed.

hey, I am not a noob :ick:  Of course I got the capship down, but I just think it was too hard compared to the WC3 and 4 style of Bombing and to the amount of fighters protecting it.
There is a SWARM of fighters but the frigate is more dangerous than those 20 fighters  Otherwise, you could argue that capships were too harmless in all original WCs...

In wc2 they where pretty hard to kill. The Torpedo runs where allways a point of me swearing and replaying missions.
In WC3+4 the caps where truely easy to kill. Same goes for WC1...a Hornet to kill a capship? Ok I have also managed to kill a Stardestroyer with an Awing ^_^

Weird glitch. I cant take the thing out unless all fighters are destroyed.

Star Dastroyers can be blown with each fighter, but only with the correct tactics and a big amount of patience. That should be the same in WCS.

Well, that IS the fact in WCS, but it isn't that easy as in WC1.  I managed to kill a destroyer with an Arrow. (ok, it took long, but it works. you just have to find the right spot  :) )

Or just take out the turrets and escort maybe the engines also then get some ducktape and a coke ^_^

I dunno, I've found turrets to be nearly useless against torpedos.  They can never seem to hit it.

Realy? From my experiance they get shot down pretty fast when you are to far away or target the wrong spot.

Maybe he is talking about the original WCs...     (I totally agree with you, Lars :drevil:)
