what are the weapons in fs2 open that look like flaming mothballs? i can't seem to remember. all i know is what i said and i hate them. does anyone know what they are? also is anyone thinking of remodeling them?
-
The Lamprey? (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Lamprey)
-
The morning star then
-
I find the morning star more useful than the lamprey myself.
-
Morningstars are good for sentry guns and nothing else.
Lampreys are worthless. (Might try giving the AI some to see how annoying they get though).
-
The kinetic weapon evolution
Flail > Lamphey > Morning Star
FS1 > Reconstruction > FS2
Lamphey is a C**p upgrade to a useless weapon. Morning star is only one that is any good
-
I enjoy using the morning star to push fighters around, that's about it.
-
The morning star has decent range, so that can be fun sometimes.
-
what one looks all fuzzy when you fire it though?
-
Isn't that the circe?
-
yeah - that one. gawd that just seriously makes me fell like i'm trying to kill of moths
-
The Circe is actually a decent weapon, as is the Flail.
The Lamprey is somewhat useful in an Ares because it will keep the more maneuverable fighters from totally destroying you.
The Morning Star is useless
-
The tactical weapon evolution
Flail > Morning Star
Leech > Lamprey
FS1 > FS2
Fixed that for you.
-
Oh sorry...
I never use them so i dont know
-

NO! It's not the Circe! The one that spews particles is the Lamprey!

The Circe would've been more useful if it fired a bit faster. The Lamprey never appealed to me, the difference it made to the AI was really negligible IMO. It works if there are 1 or 2 enemy fighters, but if you have more than 3 it's useless. As soon as you drain the energy of one, the others have already recharged and are shooting at you again. The Morning Star is like the Flail but less useful, really.
-
well whatever it is i think it would be better remodeled. it dosn't quite give the particle impression. more of a well - flaming mothball impression
-
When I first saw it it instantly reminded me of the Flamer from Mechwarrior 3.
-
it works about as well as a screen door in a submarine.

 good one.
-
By the way, I thought this was going to be a completely different topic.
-
So did i ;)
-
I thought it would be about old ships.
-
i thought it would be about moths :p
-
i thought it would be about moths :p
Then you have no idea what mothballing means...
-
It's not like teabagging, slightly different.
Is there even a topic about mothballing ships?
-
We could convert this thread :P

So, I wonder what happened to all the Chronos-freighters? They were better than Tritons in more than one area, same with the Amuns being better than Orisis-es.
-
I really miss the chronos freighters :( They're in my campaign! (Shameless plug)
Seriously though, can you mothball a spaceship? Do they bring them down to a planet?
-

god... it's my thread i was just joking about what i thought it was.

No need to get all defensive :doubt:
-
I'm not getting defensive :nervous:
-
Ok guys, back on the topic derailment!
Mothballing ships
-
Well, mothball fleet basically means kept in reserve...maybe all those Fenris and Leviathans were brought out of reserve due to first the NTF and then the Shivans...maybe...
-
cool thread derailment - my specialty ;7
although i usually do it by way of spam not civil discussion...
-

Yes but how are they mothballed? In space? Tied to a station? On a planet surface?
-
Leave 'em near shipyards?
Well, think of it, where do they put mothball fleets in the present day?
-
Most likely tied to a station or something in some backwater system.
-
Stripped down or fully functional?
-
probably missing a few turrets and such but mainly intact. that way they are there when you need them
-
Mothball ships are typically left intact to be able to be commissioned in a relatively short time.
-
So somewhere in a system there are lots and lots of cruisers and destroyers just sitting around waiting for someone to take them?
:drevil:
-
most likley near an armed station
-
They wouldn't be ready to be used. They'd be defueled and likely some important components of the power system and weapons are missing; things that are easy to replace but necessary for it to work. They'd also have no interior atmosphere. Vacuum is a much more gentle resting place.
There a various degrees of deactivation. I think the GTVA probably went for something along the lines of a boneyard rather than mothballing. The ships were seriously stripped down before deactivation and lack weapons and other major, expensive, and easily reusable components, but the hulls are still intact and it would be quicker to reactivate them then build new ones.

That seems quite likely.
-
That'd be a great weapon. Release a millions upon millions of moths. They start going for the light of engines, lasers, anything. You'd need a lot of moths though. Probably good for weapon suppression and or get enough of them around the engines of a ship...disabling.
-
Moths can't survive in vacum, what are you gonna do, out them in little space suits.
-
Mothball as in figuratively? A "mothball fleet" is another name for a reserve fleet.
-
Would little mothballs in space move by flapping their wings?

I meant space faring moths duhh
-
Space moths! :D
-

No, as there are no aerodynamics in a vacuum.
-
That was a joke, a bad one apparently :sigh:
-
No, I just have no sense of humor.
-
We all know that space is fluid! SO, its fine.

You know, that would be a really fun thing to put into a mission or something. You stumble across a mothballed fleet just waiting out there, your peeps are getting the shaft, so what do you do? fire the whole friggin' fleet back up. Or if your allies aren't getting shafted, just rearm the thing and become a regional power.
-
And hope that you got more than enough people to crew whatever and how many ships you find
In the mean time. NICE FIND
-
See: Derelict
See: Homesick
-
I think that the ships (some of them) are partially stripped and leased to traders/the like.
And I was talking about old WIP models and such when I started the new topic. But this being HLP...

Mothra.
