By the way an0n, showing your face all clear as day and all really kills your mystique. You were much more impressive when you were a faceless, voiceless asshole.

As for Shrike and the other guys, it's a real shame they don't come around anymore.

Maybe for these yungins, but I'm pretty sure an0n showed his face before this.

Ok, I understand a newb not knowing who Dark was, but you've been around a while Kosh, and you don't know? He was like the first famous/great modder of FS.

wtf is Dark?

I remember Lightspeed . . . but this dark was apparently before my time
Title: Re: The HLP History Poll
Post by: CP5670 on December 12, 2008, 12:00:29 am
Dark was mostly FS1 era, much older than Lightspeed.

The Plasma option should be split up into the two or three threads he made, each of which became legends in their own right.

HFB was an interesting one. He was only around for a few days, but caused complete mayhem during that time. I don't think anyone found out who he was.

There was also the whole range of Squadwar shenanigans. I might be the only one here who remembers all that. :p

I'm designing a working chainsword. That should help replace my mystique with fear and awe.

And I never posted a shot of my ass. I dunno where the **** you got that from.

I did, however, probably post this:

http://www.penguinbomb.com/images/an0nfreak5.jpg

Dark was the winner of the 3D modelling contest they ran to drum up members for the newborn HLP. He remade the Pod-fighter from Lost In Space, iirc. He was obscenely talented and managed to make things back in the bad old days of modelling that're better than anything you mooks could manage today.

As for Squadwar, they were all their whole own thing - and I never got into the whole 'play online' thing. Especially back during the hilariousness of all the cheating and ****.

my god, dark, and plasma, back in the DAYS!

for those of you new, Dark was, no is the best FS modeler there ever will be.

plasma was a writer of great comedy.

I know I should remember todd-o-love, I remember the phrase I just can't remember what it was, and HBF can't place it but odds are good if I knew what it stood for I was there for it.

does anyone remember Pastel? old hard core FS1 era mod hacker, wrote pofs BY HAND WITH A HEX EDITOR!!!!!!!!!_!_ and what ever happened to Orange and Zarathud, what happened to Wild Wolf after he got hired by V?
Title: Re: The HLP History Poll

Zarathud turned up a little while back actually to argue about Battle of Endor missions. :)

http://www.penguinbomb.com/images/toddolove.jpg

From when the **** ****ing banned me, because he's a ****ing ****.

And HFB is HemaroidFrogButt - the VBB's uber-troll.

does anyone remember Pastel? old hard core FS1 era mod hacker, wrote pofs BY HAND WITH A HEX EDITOR!!!!!!!!!_!_ and what ever happened to Orange and Zarathud, what happened to Wild Wolf after he got hired by V?

I remember Pastel as an entity, but not as a person.

Orange ****ed off pretty quickly after the VWBB died a painful death, afaik.

Random: Ace stuck around for a bit at NW, and tried to get a D&D style thing going but faded away.

And WildWolf (as the Todd-O-Love suggests) can **** off and die.

It's hard to compare him to today's modelers, as we have much better tools available now. What made his models especially remarkable was that there were no good converters or pof utilties in those days, and you had to edit the files manually to a large extent. Custom models were very rare back then due to the amount of work it took to make them.

I remember everything below - not including - Dark. I know he made the FS2 Valkyrie, but not much else.

And the Derek Smart thing... has that been so long? I know I've been around a while when he came, yet I don't remember Dark who is listed just above DS.

And what about Setekh? I thought he was still around under a different name.

Nodewar
Shrike
Setekh
The April Fool's Day Fiasco

Tiara

Hmm... I'm surprised I remember this much.

I miss Lightspeed as-well, he an important part in the success of this place.  HLP owes alot to the guy.

Uh, no.  We had up-to-the-minute backups; I quadruple- and quintuple-checked that with Styxx.  The problem was that Gamespy had a server issue which prevented us from actually running the forum restore function for a month.

Though I acknowledge it could have all been avoided if I had been smart enough to hide the forums instead of actually deleting them. :sigh:

I only started lurking around HLP 4 years ago, so I only know of some events by reading other members' experiences. I remember Volition Watch Archives (http://archives.volitionwatch.com/) though, in fact the site is still accessible and apparently has some files hosted there. I think one of the first user-made missions/campaigns I dl'd from there and tried to get running was something called "Drunk" IIRC. Sounded funny but noob that I was (or still am) I couldn't get it working.

I think I was one or two months late to witness that DS episode, was that about 4 and a half years ago? And yet HLP lives on.

Sometimes I wonder what HLP will be like 5 years or so from now, and what state the SCP will have reached.

Squadwar sounds a lot like Boneyards for Total Annihilation was. Multiplayer gaming just isn't the same anymore :(

I just remembered when Karajorma got 'banned'

That was reasonably recently though. :p

When was he banned? Are you referring to his "Banned administrator" custom title?

It's when someone reported one of his posts.

His words were "Oi! I've had enough of you!" to himself.

Really. Go into the channel and keep asking BotenAnna. She'll spit it out soon enough.

Really. (http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/6010/second9so.jpg)

IIRC Karnak, Charon, etc. those were all his, when they were low poly. That hi-poly one is Bobbo's though, because Dark left before Open.

Pity I don't see her nowadays.

Uh, Kara, just a heads up: BotenAnna has, apart from the post where you banned yourself, HLPers asking woutersmits to post the info (same thread), quotes from takashi, and Black Wolf's drunken thread about a hamnyurger.

Uh... the HTL Karnak wasn't Bobboau's, it was Galactic Emperor's (now known as Galemp)
