Title: My own little rasberry to the Diaspora team
Post by: Hellstryker on December 17, 2008, 08:16:03 am
I know it's probably not up the standard.  But would you Diaspora people be interested in adding this to your list of fun stuff when \ if I ever get this finished?

The diaspora people are the elitists of HLP, so i'd say no  :doubt:

Oh bull****. The Diaspora people aren't elitist - they have high standards, sure, but that's far from the same thing. Even if you took Kara out of the equation, you don't have to look hard to see Diaspora people helping newbies out to develop their skills and what not. Don't confuse someone who's better than you with someone who's "elitist".

But... but... if we're supposedly not elitist, does that mean we have to stop walking around with our noses in the sky and distancing ourselves from the common rabble? Because, y'know, they sorta smell. And we don't really want to be seen with them either.

With the exceptions of shiv, turambar, and blowfish  :p

You know black wolf, I could start a massive flame war right here, but because I know who kara would side with, and in the end I know it will ultimately be pointless anyway, I won't.

Ok, joking aside. If you actually have a real grudge with the team, telling us about it so we can know what we're doing wrong would be appreciated. If you're worried about flames, PM will be fine, or hell, drop by the IRC and have a go at us there. Believe it or not, but we do actually care what people think, and if anyone happens to dislike us for a valid reason, then if possible we'd like to get it dealt with so that we can at least upgrade our standing with them to neutrality.

Well I can certainly tell you that did not improve my view of the Diaspora team.

Keep in mind that I'm not on the Diaspora team. But I know and respect plenty of the people who are, and I don't like it when people I hold in that kind of regard are given crap like that for no reason. If you don't like what I've posted, then you need to take it up with me, and me alone.

Oh man, I feel like an idiot. I thought that SWC Badge was a Diaspora badge. Can we just stop this here? My reasons for disliking the Diaspora team are personal and as such it'd be best to keep them off the forum. My first post about it was half joking, but since I was under the impression BW was part of the Diaspora team...

Can this get scooted into its own thread? Like Bourgeoisie Diaspora or something?  As Shade mentioned if their is a valid issue the team would probably like to address it, but we are coming way off topic for the thread.

Fine, we'll leave it there. I've made my feelings clear, so have you. Crisis over as far as I'm concerned.

Starslayer - I'll split it if it ignites again, but I don't think there's much general community antipathy towards the diaspora people, so I don't think it deserves a thread just yet, unless boewolf really wants me to.

I'm just wondering where it comes from, and frankly I'm rather curious about it. I mean, we haven't even kicked any puppies yet. Babies, sure, but no puppies.

Well Battlestar is all about having unfortunate things happen to babies.  We wouldn't be faithful to the source material if we didn't carry on the tradition :D

Just surprises me that I've been here 7 years as part of this community, and I wouldn't consider myself Elitist in the slightest. I'm over-critical of my own work, yes, but joining a project doesn't make people elitists. Most of the Diaspora team have been here for years, have helped many of the newbs in their early days of FS modding, despite not having to, we did it because we believed in the community and in the people in it.

I'm locking this thread because, to be blunt, I find it quite hurtful.

To be honest I'd rather hear Hellstryker explain himself rather than hiding behind the excuse of saying he's scared of me. :p

So I'm going to reopen this one and he can explain how on Earth he's managed to form such a ridiculous notion.

The diaspora team has some of the most talented, helpful and level headed members of the entire community among it's ranks. If you dislike them then I'd question how you can appreciate anything or anyone else on HLP.

The only reason I can see anyone possibly disliking them is for raising the bar so high in terms of content quality. :p

Can we please just delete this ****ing cesspool of a thread? It was meant to be a joke until blackwolf came along.

It's one thing when you make a joke and it isn't interpreted the way you want.  It's an entirely different thing when you make a joke and then defend said joke as being serious, and then later go "Oops, people don't like me... Umm, I was joking, I swear"

And it's another thing to continue to put him in this uncomfortable situation, just because he hurt your feelings a little. Why was this thread unlocked, past the fact that people wanted to see Hellstryker squirm?

I wouldn't quite call it scared, I'd just rather not be monkeyed right now, but it would seem I have no choice. Outside from a few certain people (Yes Kara, i'm looking at you), I have no beef with the diaspora team, I meant it as a joke, then blackwolf came along with that ****ing comment of his, which I imagine would piss anyone off if it were directed at them, and because of it I thusly assumed he was part of the diaspora team, which he in fact is not.

Now, quoting myself earlier, can we please, for the love of all that is holy, delete this ****ing cesspool of a thread?

Firstly I'm absolutely not letting anyone give the impression we delete or lock threads simply because they disagree with Diaspora. So I'm undeleting this one. We've seen quite enough of that kind of stupidity on Game-Warden to allow it to happen here on HLP too. Too many people have viewed this thread for it to simply disappear just cause someone doesn't like the opinions expressed on it.

It will simply leave people scratching their heads as to why it vanished and then Diaspora will get the blame. Which is exactly how reputations for being elitist get started. :p

And it's another thing to continue to put him in this uncomfortable situation, just because he hurt your feelings a little. Why was this thread unlocked, past the fact that people wanted to see Hellstryker squirm?

Cause Hellstryker  had voiced opinions which he had the right to explain should he wish to. I don't like closing threads just cause they disagree with Diaspora for the same reasons I don't like deleting them.

I wouldn't quite call it scared, I'd just rather not be monkeyed right now, but it would seem I have no choice.

Nonsense. I've never once monkeyed someone who managed to stay civil and on topic. IIRC Trashman is the only person I've ever monkeyed I was even arguing with and he only gets monkeyed due to his inability to actually remain on topic and habit of inventing arguments he refuses to back up. Neither of which belong in a reasoned debate.

If you can give sensible, credible support to your arguments and stay civil you're in little danger from me even if you are complaining about Diaspora or arguing with me personally.

Yet you drew up a list of who you didn't have a problem with and it only had three people on it? :D Anyway at least you've finally explained yourself.

Nope. But I will lock it unless you say you want to post further.
