Title: HLP Perth/Australia
Post by: portej05 on March 10, 2009, 08:42:07 am
So, I know we went through this a while ago, but instead of dredging the old thread up I thought I'd do it here:

Is anyone interested in an HLP Perth?

I'm not opposed. As long as I'm not working, I'll go along to any perth meetup. An australiawide one might be more difficult though.

Sure, count me in for Perth. If I'm free, I'll pop along.

I'd probably be refused entry to any bars/clubs/venues

Due to both my age and "Bad Record" with some of the places up there. As soon as you walk in there with more than 5 people who dress like 50 Cent/Drapht look-a-likes they seem to think you're up to something. They're right for the most part as well which doesn't help.

Love to come. If it was on the other side of the bloody continent. Goddamn WA.

Sydney bars are better, anyways. *Grumble*

Well, still, 3 isn't bad - it's more HLPers than I would have expected in Perth. What's the most accessible spot for everyone? I live about five minutes from Curtin uni, and work/study there - anyone else nearby? Alternately, a central point, say somewhere in the city, might be better?

Four (4)!
Darius, DilmahG, portej05 and BlackWolf

I live up in Mundaring area, and go to UWA just about every day. I work in West Perth.
Somewhere DilmahG can go as well would probably be a good idea for a first meetup.

I reckon in the city is a good idea - it's close to everything, and the train station/busports are dead centre (well, almost)

I'm about five minutes from Curtin Uni too so I can get to most places if need be.

City sounds good.

City's good for me as well. I'm usually there most of the time on the weekends anyway so it isn't a huge issue for me going there.

OK, so when and where? Where's good for a non boozy meetup in the city? Some cafe or something somewhere I suppose? And days - weekends I guess? This weekend? Next? When's everyone free?

I can do anytime on Sunday. (15/03)
Any time next wednesday or thursday after about 2pm
Next Friday evening
Next Saturday or Sunday (21/03, 22/03)

Somewhere along Hay St or Murray St Mall?
The Zoo?

I'm free all weekends usually, if not I can still find a way around whatever I'm doing

*bump*
There's the Merchant along Murray, there's the Borders Gloria Jeans, there's the zoo (probably a bit expensive and big though), there's that juice place on hay st, there's the sushi place near the woolworths on Murray, there's Northbridge, forrest place.
We can either do dinner or coffee or something like that.

Yeah I can do coffee, if its dinner my parents might start asking questions. As long as it's near/in the city I can do it.

Alrighty, coffee it is (at least, this first time round).

Where?

Hmmmm, I have no idea. The only place I go to get food in the city is Red Rooster next to that shopping mall near the train station. That's also because I'm a cheap bastard :P

God it's been ages since I've been to the zoo, that sushi place on Murray I could definitely do. I've seen that coffee place before, but I'll have to find it again though
I can't remember the Merchant on Murray but I've seen one on Beaufort street. Actually I think I could make all those places with enough notice.

Downside being I don't think I can get out of the house next weekend, unless it's the weekend after.

Red Rooster

 :ick:

Which side of Australia does Steak live on?

Sydney, if I remember right.

I'll be in Narrogin next week from tomorrow, and Margaret River that weekend. So..any time after that?

Sister's B'day, but that doesn't bother me too much. Neither of us really have our parties on the exact dates of our birthdays anyway. Should be fine

Saturday, although there is the possibility I could do something Sunday the window isn't looking that good. And it would take a lot of "Creative-Persuasion" on my part, but hell, I'm capable of that

Saturday the 28th then? Lunch or coffee or summat, somewhere in the city? I don't really have a preference in terms of where we go to eat or whatever - I dunno too many places in the city anyway. So, someone pick a place and I'm there

Saturday is good for me (and I hope everyone else!)

How about that little Japanese place in forrest chase (the one on the left, not the one on the right)?

Yeah Saturday's fine for me.

I'll have to look that place up on google maps but it should be fine for me :)

Well, it's like a square kinda place, and there are only shops/nosheries on one side, so as you are looking at that side, it's on the left.

Sorry folks, forgot to check it out today.

Just keeping this at the front!

Is everyone OK with this coming weekend? (and we still haven't settled where yet - I suggest either the Merchant on Murray St or that new coffee shop on the corner of murray and barack)

This Saturday should be fine for me as well.

I don't mind where as long as they don't boot me for being underage and I can find the damn place.

Actually, bugger. Are we able to make it noon-early afternoonish? I've got to send off my partner's parents at the airport later that day.

That suits me pretty well actually.

That way I can sleep in and go to a rave that night :)

Alrighty folks, are we still on for this (can someone sticky this so it doesn't keep getting lost!)?
Need a definite answer by tomorrow night.

I reckon the cafe (the new one - where the lindt store used to be) on the corner of Barack and Murray St is probably the best place (we can move to the other place if we need to).
How does 1pm suit?

BTW, has anyone considered making HLP shirts - it would make recognising everyone just that much easier on these kinds of events.

PM mobile numbers around?
Title: Re: HLP Perth/Australia
Post by: Black Wolf on March 26, 2009, 01:33:32 pm
I am going to be rushing around a bit to make it fit, but I should be able to make it for 1 pm.

Barrack and Murray is a good meeting spot I reckon - everyone can get there even if, as you say, we end up elsewhere.

As for recognition, why not just have everyone pin a bit of paper saying "HLP" to their shirt? It'll look a bit goofy for a few minutes before everyone gets there and we take them off, but I can deal with that :)

Found the name of the place: It's called 'Exomod Coffee' and it's right on the corner (next to the newsagent and the entrance is right next to the lights)

1pm is good for me.  Corner of Barrack and Murray St is a nice obvious landmark too...

I'll also be doing some dashing around that morning and will most likely be heading up from fremantle, so if I'm running late, I'll need a contact number to let people know. I'll also PM people my number.

I'll clothes pin it to the back of my Cap :)

Sounds Good

I'll pm number around as well, but my ****ty, ****ty battery prevents me from turning my phone on for more than an hour in total before having to charge it again (I'm working on it)

HLP Perth went off with only minor hitches.
MIA was BlackWolf (we moved locations after about 45mins at the coffee shop, no sign of BW)

Oh GOD DAMN! Somehow I got it into my head that it was supposed to be tomorrow - Sunday, despite posting myself that it was Saturday and all of the page 2 posts confirming that :( I just must have forgotten, remembered wrong and then never checked since I "knew" it was Sunday. ****!

I planned my entrie weekend around getting back into perth for a 1pm sunday meeting (I'm out of town ATM). **** **** ****! And, just to add insult to injury, if I'd been planning on doing it today I would have made my life much easier this weekend :/

Sorry guys, totally my bad - I hope I didn't inconvenience you guys too much with the waiting. :( If we ever decide to get to do anything like this again I hope I can get along to that (I'll make sure to check the date a bit more carefully  ), and first round's on me (if we do it somewhere boozy anyway :))

So, what did I miss anyway?
