Title: Idiot Wannabe DJs

Its still not working
Its still changing the pitch
and not the note

I think wannabe techno music producers who don't know what a "key" is, what a "note" is, how to make a melody, or for that matter,

whats minor

WHAT MAJOR OR MINOR MEAN, should be BANNED FROM MAKING MUSIC. Remember that this guy is about 16 too, and he doesn't know things I figured out by myself when I was 4 and banging on an electric keyboard. If you have no musical talent, don't make it.

Ugh.

DJ Goatfish... the guy's a dickhead in my books already. I could almost say you're being a bit harsh on him though, how long's he been DJ-ing for?

If he's 16 and he doesn't know what a key is, he shouldn't be DJ-ing at all, ever. That said, he isn't even DJ-ing, he's (failing at) composing music, which has nothing to do with DJ-ing and just calls himself DJ Goatfish because all the cool trance producers are DJs.

So do the rest of us, I thought you only call yourself DJ if you ACTUALLY DJ?

djpretzel (http://www.ocremix.org/) doesn't actually DJ and seems to get by just fine, though he's mocked himself repeatedly in the past over his name choice.

More on-topic, I think we already have a term for aspiring musicians who don't know the first thing about melody or key.  They're called "rappers." :p

Well, that's factually true :P I make a living MC-ing and I don't know **** about melody or key, I assume the DJ knows something about it though.

Producers, yes. Dj's...it helps, but it's certainly not a prerequisite.

That would explain it.  :)

I can't sight read or translate stuff to a different key instantly, but I certainly know the basic rules of Composition and I know my scales from learning Guitar, so whilst I won't say I'm fluent at the rules of music, I am, at least, not totally unaware of them.

Man, let the kid do his stuff. If it's awful don't listen to it.

Sometimes I think people go outta their way to get upset.

Yeah, I'm no expert on this anyway.

If no one listens to him, he'll stop eventually.

I've never heard his stuff, so I refuse to stand in judgement, but annoying people are annoying... ;)

Ugh. Music (and talent) was around long before minors and majors were formulated :doubt:

Not as long as you'd think to be honest, there were musical scales in 7000BC, just not the chromatic scales we use today ;)

Correct. I merely jumped in to remind that music is the art, and scales (and whatever) are the tools. Talent is inherent to (some) people, are they aware of these formal systems or not. :)

Agreed, there are some great composers out there who have very little, if any musical training

I only have an issue with people who clearly lack any talent at all and are also unaware of formal systems.

Yea, that summed with a wannabe attitude can be a disaster to bear.

I have some knowledge of music theory at least, but I don't think I'm that proficient.
