So my current job is amazing. It's an all expenses paid road trip across the US, pays about $1000 a week, as a field technician. No specialized training or education required, just availability to be away on business for 3-4 weeks at a time.
The boss says they're looking for more people--and I need a partner. So! I know solicitation is frowned upon here but A) it's an AMAZING job B) You get to hang out with me for a few weeks cruising around the country C) it pays really well and D) they need more people ASAP, and they rely on their existing trusted associates to find other trustworthy people.
If you're available now, interested, and can pass the necessary background checks, send me a PM.

Bah. . .
Sounds great.
:(
-
If I didn't loathe traveling, I'd be all over this. :p
-
Gah, ****ing school. :[
-
I may be contacting you in a few months.
-
already stuck housesitting for the next month
-
As fascinating as it sounds, I'm already better-employed.
-
Man, I wish I weren't in college.
-
You haven't really stated what the job entails to tell an interested party what it may involve... qualifications
or not...
Are you running cats over the border, hauling stuff, technical work, lifting, professional twinkie tester at various sites?
You get the idea... field technician can mean a lot of things depending on the field of work.
Some clarification may be in order.
-
No
Don't ruin the nmagic!

It's servicing point-of-sale stations at various retail chains. High security work. No qualifications necessary, as far as I'm aware, except of course for the necessary background checks.

After talking with BlueFlames today, I should note that this is a comissioned position, not hourly or salaried, without benefits--so if you have a permanent position, you should definitely stick with it. If you're unemployed or just working temp jobs, though, gimme a call. Time is very important, by the way, so let me know ASAP.

I figured it was too good to be true (or at least would have some kind of catch to it).

You can make a ton of money on commissioned work. If it's an intro job (something you do for a summer during/after college) it can be a great idea.
-
It's not sales work, either. I'm paid $50 for every store I service in a day, which is between 4 and 6.
-
Ditto, have classes, definitely looking for work, but I think I should stick to my own city for now :P
-
Alright, well if there are ANY unemployed Americans here (and I'm really, but pleasantly surprised that there aren't) let me know. Even if you just want some details, I can talk to you over the phone. And if this is a trust issue... well, I've been face-to-face with more HLPers than anyone else, and they can all vouch for me.
-
Oh, I'm completely unemployed, but this just decidedly isn't for me. :p

Describe how road expenses are taken care of, please. :P And training is on-the-job?

Expenses need to be paid up-front. Saturday evening, you fill out an invoice with your room, travel, and food expenses on it, as well as the store numbers you've serviced. Submit this report via email on Saturday evening and FedEx at the earliest opportunity. Checks usually arrive on Thursday.
Training is done on-the-job, probably by me. It's nothing more than memorizing a procedure, which is spelled out in front of you step by step anyway, and can be done in one day. With practice, by the fourth or fifth store, you'll be fine.
-
Not so much that folks are not out of a job (myself being one) but it's whether or not
the shoe fits so to speak.
Are the employers strictly looking at national availability or perhaps something more regional?

So basically I need a car and $1000 or so? The question sitll remains; how is insurance on your vehicle dealt with? Is it paid upfront by the company? By you and reimbursed? Just by you?
-
Well, they'll TRY to keep you local, but you could be going anywhere. My current partner in Northern California flew here from Michigan. It's expected that we'll be using a rental car--that covers the vehicle, gas, and insurance, of course.
-
man i have to agree with you - i'm surprised there aren't more people out there jumping at this.
guys - $1000 a week? c'mon... do the math.
the economy's bad at the moment, and 99.9% of unemployed in this country would do anything to have a job like this, yet all of you are saying "welll i don't think it's for me". you don't think it's for you!? wow wake up guys, this is an excellent opportunity, and he's offering it to the community first, before anyone else.
i'll be thoroughly disappointed if you can't find someone :(
-
No offense to you personally, but not all of us are willing to wander across the entire country with someone we've never met before; hell, not all of us would be willing to do so even with our best friend. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a ridiculously-introverted homebody who loathes travel even for pleasure and has never left his own time zone. When I say "this isn't for me," I mean it with every fiber of my being. The money's all well and good, but I'd rather stick around for something that I'd actually want to do.

Postscript on this-- I and mxlm (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=9489) will be heading all over Texas in October and early November. If anyone there wants to have a mini-Hard Light meeting, lemme know.
-
Awesome! Good luck, you guys.

I live in Texas! Bryan/College Station to be exact. Think you'll be heading that way?

Let me know when you plan on coming to Houston or surrounding areas (means college station, even as far west as Austin). i'm DEFINATELY up for it...
-

Yeah. All the best. :)
-
Thanks, kids.
Anyway, if my map reading skills aren't failing me will we indeed be be in the college station and/or Houston and/or Austin areas. Though I don't know when.
-
We'll work on that when I see you tomorrow. :)
I don't have Bryan or Houston scheduled exactly, but we'll be in that area around Halloween. We're also going to spend probably two or three days in Houston, since we have a lot of work to do there.
/ugh. The New Yorker in me keeps pronouncing "Hyoo-stun" as "House-ton."
-
Don't feel bad, before i moved here, i spelled it "Euston" lol. weird name.
Yeah i'm willing to drive a couple hours to meet you guys if necessary, to be honest... i'd tried getting together with another forumite - Matthewpapa - a few years ago, but it didn't work out, and i think the idea of a meet would be great.
If you're in houston for a few days, then that's even better. End of october? nice - once you get exact dates, shoot me a PM, and i'll mark it on my calendar. we can go grab dinner and a drink or two, and do whatever. i know this city like the back of my hand, so even if ya'll want to get a boat and take it out on the lake or something, we'll do it.

A shame I'm still in school. I'll be out around Feb 2011. Yay 4-year-degree-in-<3-years!
