Not so much that folks are not out of a job (myself being one) but it's whether or not
the shoe fits so to speak.

Are the employers strictly looking at national availability or perhaps something more regional?

Describe how road expenses are taken care of, please. :P And training is on-the-job?

Expenses need to be paid up-front. Saturday evening, you fill out an invoice with your room, travel, and food expenses on it, as well as the store numbers you've serviced. Submit this report via email on Saturday evening and FedEx at the earliest opportunity. Checks usually arrive on Thursday.

Training is done on-the-job, probably by me. It's nothing more than memorizing a procedure, which is spelled out in front of you step by step anyway, and can be done in one day. With practice, by the fourth or fifth store, you'll be fine.
So basically I need a car and $1000 or so? The question sitll remains; how is insurance on your vehicle dealt with? Is it paid upfront by the company? By you and reimbursed? Just by you?

Well, they'll TRY to keep you local, but you could be going anywhere. My current partner in Northern California flew here from Michigan. It's expected that we'll be using a rental car--that covers the vehicle, gas, and insurance, of course.

man i have to agree with you - i'm surprised there aren't more people out there jumping at this.

guys - $1000 a week? c'mon... do the math.

the economy's bad at the moment, and 99.9% of unemployed in this country would do anything to have a job like this, yet all of you are saying "welll i don't think it's for me".  you don't think it's for you!? wow wake up guys, this is an excellent opportunity, and he's offering it to the community first, before anyone else.

i'll be thoroughly disappointed if you can't find someone :(

No offense to you personally, but not all of us are willing to wander across the entire country with someone we've never met before; hell, not all of us would be willing to do so even with our best friend.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a ridiculously-introverted homebody who loathes travel even for pleasure and has never left his own time zone.  When I say "this isn't for me," I mean it with every fiber of my being.  The money's all well and good, but I'd rather stick around for something that I'd actually want to do.

Postscript on this-- I and mxlm will be heading all over Texas in October and early November. If anyone there wants to have a mini-Hard Light meeting, lemme know.

I live in Texas! Bryan/College Station to be exact. Think you'll be heading that way?

Let me know when you plan on coming to Houston or surrounding areas (means college station, even as far west as Austin).  i'm DEFINATELY up for it...

Thanks, kids.

Anyway, if my map reading skills aren't failing me will we indeed be be in the college station and/or Houston and/or Austin areas. Though I don't know when.
I will ask that you explain yourself. Please do so with the clear understanding that I may decide I am angry enough to destroy all of you and raze this sickening mausoleum of fraud down to the naked rock it stands on.

We'll work on that when I see you tomorrow. :)

I don't have Bryan or Houston scheduled exactly, but we'll be in that area around Halloween. We're also going to spend probably two or three days in Houston, since we have a lot of work to do there.

/ugh. The New Yorker in me keeps pronouncing "Hyoo-stun" as "House-ton."

Don't feel bad, before i moved here, i spelled it "Euston" lol. weird name.

Yeah i'm willing to drive a couple hours to meet you guys if necessary, to be honest... i'd tried getting together with another forumite - Matthewpapa - a few years ago, but it didn't work out, and i think the idea of a meet would be great.

If you're in houston for a few days, then that's even better.  End of october? nice - once you get exact dates, shoot me a PM, and i'll mark it on my calendar.  we can go grab dinner and a drink or two, and do whatever.  i know this city like the back of my hand, so even if ya'll want to get a boat and take it out on the lake or something, we'll do it.

A shame I'm still in school. I'll be out around Feb 2011. Yay 4-year-degree-in-<3-years!
