I've officially started work on a dodgy battlestar mod. Inspired by a certai recent topic to try a put together a shoddy BSG mod as fast as humanly possible (i'm not working twenty hour days. That's just stupid) rather just do the odd bit at lunch or during my commute. I've completed a reasonable viper model yesterday. I'm in the process of uv mapping the sucker. Tomorrow i'll add subsystems etc.
If it's buggy so what, you guys need it now apparently ;)
There were three other guys on the team. Can't remember who though lol.

I'm trying to uv map a tiny tiny low poly model on the train. But it's bloody harder than I remember.
Plus some polies appear to have inverted normals, except they're not. :wtf:
I'm a gonna release it all regardless. I'm aiming to make one fighter a week solely during commute time. That's ten hours. Realistically less.
Including texturing and conversion.
My deadline appears to be kicking my arse.
UV mapping in lithunwrap is the thorn in my paw.

Hey Dekker, are you going to use Stratcomm's ships? I hear they have a ridiculous amount of high-res textures, making them less-than-suitable for missions involving more than a few vessels. Perfect for a dodgy mod.

I was going to try and use mostly original content, scratchbuilt. To rush it in fact. This would be the equivalent me a crayon drawing compared to a cad blueprint me something like TBP.

No. The school has Adobe whatsitcalled, but The only chance I have to use a computer during the day is on one of the ones that doesn't have it.
EDIT: DO you want them drawn on notebook paper, or are we going to digitally ink them? :drevil:

I'm probably going to trace bitmap in flash.
So as long as the notepad paper isn't lined. You can do it whatever way is easiest or most comfortable. :yes:

EDIT: what exactly do you need? I have 3 pilots, vasudan and terran commands, and the stig.

Just to clarify, my mod will feature battlestar-looking things. But not exclusively.
I still need anyone and everyone to shout out what they can do. . . . If they're able to contribute. :)

I just realized the little scanner light on my printer is purple...
Alpha 2 is my favorite, and really the only one that came out halfway-decent.
Really dunno if that's what you were going for. If you wants something more serious, I need some decent reference pics.

You fred whatever you want to mate. One of the keys to this being dodgy is that once i've actually managed to map my crap and .pof it. I'll just change the ship classes in the missions without rebalancing.

Edit- turns out during lunch breaks I don't. . . I had a quick go at Wings 3d. I have to say, it's bloody marvellous. I've not got round to uv mapping in it yet. But general shape creation and manipulation appears to be cake so far.

Preferably with pink icing/frosting. . . And a plate. It should be cruiser sized ideally :)

I can see that thing rotating, it's candle's pointing at a planet. GTVA sends some fighters to investigate, as one draws near, it gets caught in the beam. at which point another pilot says:

Dodgy means suspect, out of place and potentially a little bit criminal.

And would you be adverse to using exsting stuff liek Raptors old BSG Alpha stuff. I also had a load of TOS stuff as well but looks like I am re-converting them all after the crash.
Very minor tweakage to Raptor's stuff using outside textures.
Oh and angleus just caugth me up about iron Forge.
Is he involved in this at all? If so i will say ignore this post cause really, that guy rubs me the wrong way.

Sorry I missed this. I wouldn't call it dead. We have a board now ;-)
And a couple of models. Throw in the missions mentioned and I call it progress.
Seeing as so far it's all your guys hard work, i'd like to rename this the Dodgy mod as opposed to Dekkers Dodgy mod.
You guys are making me proud, actually, I think you guys (open to all still) should freestyle it as you see fit from here on out. I'm a figurative head at this point due to extreme real life commitments. Grognards know what i'm on about. :yes:

This mod needs a mission with multiple Colossi, with one Terran super-juggernaut leading them (which is captained by Dekker in all his inebriated glory), up against a fleet of Shivan Sathanes. ;7

There's a few juggernaut-sized ships for the Terrans there.
Or if you can't find a proper super-juggernaut, just replace the Colossi with superdestroyers and give Drunk Dekker (this is important if you want proper dodgy-ness, a sober Dekker won't cut it) a Colossus or a proper Terran juggernaut (something not half-Zod like the Colossus), and throw them against a bunch of Lucifers with a Sathanas leading them.

Is someone working with Raptor's BSG Alpha files? Cause it would be good to cut down on duplication of effort. I'm testing and retesting his stuff and will upload the mod folder then when I have taken it as far as I can.
I think chief reworked some of the models but I got distracted in teh DL's so right now I think I'm using the originals, I will have to look around more.
Right now it RUNS... Don't ask for more and there are no missions, just a test mission to blow stuff up or be blown up.
Good news, I found the Rising Star (civ lux transport) and both texture sets of the Scarlet Viper. Apparently I had them online for another forum.
For now the only armed cap I tested again is the Hades (82 turrets) I need to make sure all his weapons work sm,med , large, aa ect...

BSG Alpha files (http://swc.fs2downloads.com/files/bsgalpha/) You would probably need everything in there, I never made one unified fixed back due to bandwidth originally, but I had to add the original files since they disappeared.

YEP very helpful! Plus search worked and had a few exampels of teh linka s well I got them liek 3 days ago :P
BTW I think you mentioned work on the Protector and Defendor as raptors had soem serios issues with those.
Do you have those tweaked models in one of those folders? Do you remember which one?
BTW I think it's the table thing but the engien wash on those two also make it impossible for a fighter to land in any of the bays!

Tweaked models are probably in bsg_data_20080123.7z
Then there's the cache file for the models in that but it's probably not needed, although some of the high poly ones can take a while to generate yourself.
Maps.rar is just some missing maps that weren't in the original files I think. The other 4 main files I think are the unmodified originals. the cylxv200 I believe was the cylon voice translation program.

Right, yeah I had to figure out why the hades was 90% invisible in game lol. maps spread out all over.
All those issues are done for now, I skipped defender and protector cause I knew they would be a problem initially.
Good thing I know a lot of low poly modlers. Of course I had previously converted like 50% of the BSG roster, I just got done getting all the source files again.
So here's the 64k $ questinon: Do you have a specific ship list in mind Dekker?
In other words: What do you actually need in the "non-mod".
Are you aiming strictly for nbsg or Tos , or a mixture of both? i don't think that was firmly decided yet, unless I merely missed that part?
And although I already talked with someone via PM about this issue, aside from the fact permissions have been granted, certain people might get a bit miffed at the use of certain models.
[However they have been in use since Feb/Mar of 2007 for at least two other released mods so I don't see the issue at all...] - after all, this isn't going to be some polished thing. what you see is what you get.
