Goodness = Your moral sense of right. If your goodness is attacked, it's because someone said something that offended you because it went against your core values.
I need to write a paper on a time that such a thing could have happened, but I am morally bankrupt.
Feed me ideas?

"I'm gonna rip your head off you stupid mother****er!"
That was way against my values :nervous:
-
Mind if I quote you? Such a comment definitely belongs in my English paper :P
-
I don't think it's so deeply buried in the personal phsyche as people think in my opinion, a lot of what holds people back from breaking their own ethics is the fear of external reaction, not internal guilt.

if you give me a doll i can point to where goober touched my goodness

i find this in poor taste
my goodness is injured :(
-
EXCUSE ME, but I happen to care a lot about doll-touching.
Your offense has offended my goodness
-
I completely agree with flipside.
People don't have their own core values, anyone who thinks they do are dellusional, mine are fairly unique in that I borrow from a lot of places, but even then, I BORROW FROM A LOT OF PLACES.
Morally bankrupt? I could so cite stuff that you wouldn't be comfortable with :P
.......Would probably end up banned though!

Yeah, he has a point.
And just because something disturbs me doesn't mean it would offend my moral codes :P
-
lura's soup both disturbs me and offends my moral codes
-
Your sense of smell, perhaps.
But it was delicious!
-
I tend to react with indignation to ignorance, not moral failings.
-
Zack once told me I lick donkey balls.
I find donkey ball licking offensive :(

Does pointing out war crimes or atrocities commited by one country to inhabitants of said country who believe that country is pacifist and/or noble like they are count?

Depends on how defensive they get, I guess. The point of this assignment is look at how fights that start small escalate quickly when you attack someone's core values. If they just ignore you, it doesn't count.

you've never talked to a creationist have you?

Westboro Baptist Church.

I think internal guilt+fear of external reaction covers just a part of the motivation though. As in breaking your own ethics can be as painful, as it is painful to see something dear to you being destroyed.

Yeah, that's what I ended up writing it about :3

i find that lots of religion try to exploit this phenomenon. lots of people are religious simply because it improves their social status. the church loves this, because people in power (politicians), will often claim membership in whatever church they perceive as the "popular choice", to build their social status. this gives the church a small amount of power to bend politicians to their will, since the church controls the definition of the core values.

I think most people follow some 'life after death' theory because they're too scared not to. Happy clouds are much better than a great abyss of nothing

I tend to work on a 'I'll find out when it happens' basis, though, it's not a position I'm in any rush to test ;)
-
That's generally how I feel, but I keep getting told that my lifestyle (i.e. supporting gay marriage, abortion, etc.) will condemn me to hell if God's up there
If that's true, it'll be a crowded place. I'm sure I'll find something fun to do.

Agreed.
This is pretty much evidenced by the internet too.
EDIT: I came to that conclusion slightly earlier, but I don't really like to think it that way.
