Title: Milk II
Post by: Androgeos Exeunt on May 27, 2012, 12:14:33 pm
It's been about six years since the last one and the member base has changed quite a bit, so let's run this poll on milk preferences again. And don't make it end up like last time. :mad2:

Your poll did not conform to HLP polling standards. This has been rectified.

Confused about the "Cheese" and "Cottage Cheese" options. Are we talking milk here or milk products?

1%, for what it's worth. Both the drink, and the datapoint.

The worst thing is I actually drank green milk once. I don't think I ever managed to fully rehabilitate myself from it.

Prefer whole milk 'cause I can't stand the taste of anything less that whole by itself, and I'm skinny enough to enjoy it without side effects. (i.e. Whole milk is healthy.) However, I'm gradually going away from cow milk and heading towards soy milk.

Harvey Fresh Chocolate Milk. About three other people on here will know how awesome that stuff is. :D

Skim milk. I used to drink 2%, and it doesn't even taste right now that I've switched.

Chocolate.  Usually made with 2% wal-mart brand and Nesquik.  Maybe I'll give whole milk a go again. I can't drink 2% white.

I can drink 2%, but can't stand 1%. I mean, it's practically water.

1) Buy chalk
2) Grind to fine powder
3) Add water
4) Sell as 1% milk
5) Advertise making bold claims about calcium content

Face a lifetime of ridicule for choosing tasteless, sissy skim milk

or drop a stick of butter in your corn flakes and die before you hit 30

Chalk has more Carbon Trioxide than calcium.  :blah:

Skim milk is weird. Some brands taste fine, maybe even good, while some are just undrinkably gross. I don't think it has anything to do with spoilage.

With current poll results, looks like a plurality are drinking the Kool-Aid 1% milk (including yours truly :nervous:).

Yeah, I know, but I messed up while creating the poll and cannot change it (I thought leaving the # of options box blank would allow voters to choose from as many options as they like). :(

Back on topic, I used to drink whole milk all the time when I was a kid, but now I drink strawberry milk instead. It's the only sweet milk I can find on the shelves.

They don't seem to sell 2% or 1% milk here in Singapore. I've never seen either stocked on most supermarket shelves.

I don't know what real milk tastes like anymore, but this stuff is delicious.
edit - Though it's only milk that ****s me up.  I can still eat all sorts of cheese and yogurt and ice cream in enormous quantities. :3

Homogenized is always great too

I think I'm starting to lean towards soy milk... It's pretty good, but sometimes I don't like how its sweet.

Mongoose is pretty much correct here. I've managed to change out 2% for 1% several times and nobody noticed the difference.

I can tell the difference between 2% and 1%, for the sole reason that I haven't "gotten used to" either of them in the first place. :P

I might just have to get a couple of half-gallons of each type of milk and do taste-testing shots.

I'm lactose intolerant, but I ****ing love full-cream milk. Chocolate milk, I'll drink by the gallon.

But for the past year or so, I've been having only rice milk. It's... actually pretty ****ing boss. It's sweeter than full-cream, and not watery or grey-looking like a lot of soy milks I've tried over the years. You guys should give it a try. Granted, there's no rice tit, so really it should be called rice juice, but who the **** would drink something called rice juice?

the same types of people that drink carrot juice and whatever the **** else is in V8

Some V8 is pretty good (the fruit/berry ones etc).  Regular V8 is probably an acquired taste lol.  (Which I have indeed acquired; I didn't like it, now I do. But regardless, the berry blended stuff is awesome either way.)

Milk protein intolerance here. Goat's milk is impossible to find since I'm not in ag circles. For some reason, locally produced ice cream doesn't really affect me, but that may just be the reduced quantity.

i was about to try some of that.  but i read on the label it still has all the vegetable crap in it.  i just can't imagine fruit juice completely overriding that taste.

Well, I drink skim milk as if it was water sometimes. It comes colder and tastes better than tapwater. It's also one of the best remedies I know for relieving spicy food-induced tongue combustion.

I find milk from different places tastes very different. I cannot stand the taste of milk you buy in Asia, regardless if it's whole, skimmed, or whatever.

Different companies even

Lucerne vs Dairy Land for example. The 1% on Lucerne tastes more like water than that of the Dairy Land product (which has a more creamy taste)
It's quite interesting
