please put in your diaspora folder
then activate the mod nograin in your launcher

I'd strongly advise against putting anything 3rd party (with the possible exception of missions) in your main data folder. This (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=82044.msg1636605#msg1636605) is what you should do.
The reason for doing things this way is that if you install to the main data folder, mods can interfere with later Diaspora patches. If you install them to a separate folder, a click of a button in the launcher is all it takes to turn them off. :)

Yeah but the Grain is really annoying. Why include it in the first place? Rule 1 of Graphic Settings: Make everything editable, especially if you decrease image quality for stylistic effect.
The only game I ever liked with Grain was "Wet" on Playstation 3.

It is editable. Proof being, this thread.

Maybe this table shouldn't be in the VPs, being placed in the main data folder instead, along with sort of "advanced readme" (or just a couple of informative comments in the table) allowing people to fiddle with those settings themselves.
-
Yeah, cause we want people with no idea what they're doing altering the one and only copy of the table.
Of course it needs to be in the VPs. I suppose we can make it possible to override it but if we put ever file someone might want to override outside the VPs as well and included a readme on how to alter it, we'd have release 5 years from now. If you want to alter table files, it's up to you to learn how to do it so that you get some idea of the risks involved.

I thought that wxLauncher will eventually have a way for the user to adjust post-processing, shadows, etc. Or am I mis-remembering something else?

Possibly, but the problem with modifying the post processing tbl is that some content (like Diapsora) has a very specific set of settings to get the look that they want and as a result I doubt that they would appreciate allowing the user to fiddle with that sort of thing.

It would be better to alter this sort of stuff in-game anyway.

A very good idea. In general, most of what we have as launcher flags is done with in-game menus nowadays. That might be a bit difficult to code though.

ok i turned this into a mod for easy use should no longer conflict with anything
