[color=66ff00]If anyone is running a copy of win2k would you mind copying a file called 'shell32.dll' and sending it to me? it's an icon library that I managed to fubar. :o

I'd just use win repair but I don't want it resetting any of the other stuff I tweaked.

Thanks :)

If you have your w2k cd you can just use the extract command and replace it. Or it might be in your i386 folder( if you copied it to the hard drive ).

[color=66ff00]Please excuse the general lack of knowhow but could you elaborate on the extraction method?

Thanks.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Maeglamor, please backup anything (including regedit) that's important to you, just in case

This is why you have Goback on your machine.

I take it you don't have Norton System works.

Okay, I found something better. Use the System file checker. From the command prompt type SFC /scannow /enable. try that you should be prompted to restore any files that are different. Just keep going untill the shell32.dll pops up. I hope that helps. I have been stuck on a win98 machine for awhile so I hope this works for you.

If that does not work the try the Restore wizard. Or maybe download the file Sandwich has provided if all else fails. Sorry after thought.

BTW the SFC idea is null and void, I replaced the archived one in order to trick win2k into thinking that the existing one was fubared so it would overwrite it with the edited one. The problem was nothing serious, everytime I created a new desktop shortcut it overlayed the recycle bin icon on it which is a bit damn weird.

Don't worry Stealth I got almost everything backed up and I know what I'm doing about 97.65% of the time. ;)

(I think)

Anyhow, very much obliged for the help and suggestions guys.
