Half OT - Starcraft modding
Just a thought. If someone successfully does the FreeSpace to Starcraft MOD, gues how much of your screen a Sathanas is going to occupy?

hmm, the size of a protoss carrier  
those things are huge (in one of the loading screens, there's one hovering over a Protoss base, and, well, it's muuuuuuuuuuuuuuch bigger). So sathanas= same deal, for playability purposes, I guess.

If that is the case, then what about the destroyer classes of warships? Wouldn't they have to be smaller in size too?

Yeah, a series of 17 bitmaps generally, though it differs for buildings and stuff.

The biggest size possible is 256 by 256, and this'll run quite neatly (apparently).

well, if you look at the science vessel in battle of the Amirigo (whatever the name was), that things even bigger! yet the wraith seems to be the same size, a very small fighter, and the marine, which 5 of them boarded this thing through a tiny docking bay, are about a quarter of the size of a science vessel, so obviously size isn't that proportioned

Valkyrie 1.1 is up.  

Now includes wireframes, both single and group, which change colour when fired upon.

The next edition will have unit portraits ( I hope) and sounds.

It's not exactly a project as such, not yet anyway. Once I get a bit better at the whole thing (ie. putting units in instead of replacing them, making custom engine glows, etc etc.), and I've worked out the problems with the starcraft engine (the lack of terrain problems for flying units, resources in space (gas is no problem, just use a nebula instead of an extractor, but minerals may be difficult) etc) I was planning on making a conversion for at least two races (GTVA and Shivans). I'll talk more about it later though.

However, I can't stop you from making your own mods, so if your interested, go ahead

its very funny how i was just about to ask the same thing.

i did just now spent 2 hours making a ulysses frameset in game and when i was done i couldnt even get it to convert into it. i need helps with this alot.

There. Since it never was a project, when I realized what was involved in a project like this (for a game that mods like Starcraft, I lost interest and didn't feel guilty. That said, I have gotten better with PSP since then and could probably start to bust out units in the same fashion as the Valkyrie without too much difficulty. But, all they are are effectively just picture changes - the engine glow is still the same (in the wrong place for some of the angles, and wrong for the FS Valk) as are the weapons, unit pic, sounds etc. Plus I'm alreadcy fairly busy with what I'm already doing.

If someone else (deep_eyes?) wants to start up a FS2 mod for Starcraft, I'd be willing to sign up and try to relearn all this stuff, maybe do a few units, but not as a full time thing.

how would Starfleet command 3 "SFC3" be as a modding platform for FS2... you could fly around in CAP SHIPS:eek2:  FENRISES ORIONS SATHANAS:D
