Between the inexplicable system outage (everything works just about fine, I just have to reboot everything three or more times to start up most any program, and my DSL connection works but doesn't work to the extent that I can actually connect to anything), and the amount of work I'm likely to get soon, I'm probably not gonna be able get around much or do anything for the next week or so (depending on if I can get everything somewhat functional any time soon). This is just to let all the project leaders know, since I really don't feel like tracking them all down with the limited net time I have right now.

In summary, the NSA Illuminati terrorist aliens did it. Short of massive and well-concealed incompetence on the part of a certain system administrator, the only possible solution.

[Freeman]Arr, 's a good thing I gots that Y2K bunker still![/Freeman]

I AM kinda curious as to how you can **** up a modem so that the company can't tell it doesn't work anymore, though. As well as how something so infinitely stable as RDS on a system that's too good for it can start ****ing up only after you install it properly, instead of just copying it from hard disk to hard disk...

Warranty on a modem with all the technological complexity and delicacy of a rock, or on a 10-year-old souped-up raytracer made for Windows 95 whose company tanked years ago (as opposed to the even older previous version copied off a scratched CD which I'd used to backup a failing computer that was finally virused to death after a series of hardware problems, which ran perfectly fine)?

I'm starting to suspect all the third-party plugins, but they weren't any problem at all before, and they're too damn useful to get rid of, so...

I find Stryke's thread titles informative and a valuable aid to the decision-making process of whether or not to click on them.

No, really.

Anyway, connection did one of those damned "fixed itself" things. I hate when that happens.

Anyway, yeah. That's just the connection.
