Does anyone else find it... amusing that   olition decided to name thier science cruiser the 'Faustus' class.  They seem to have a bit of flair for ironically appropriate don't they.

Sheesh, look up the names 'Petrarch' and 'Hieronymous Bosch' sometimes.
WE ARE HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS. YOU WILL LOWER YOUR FIREWALLS AND SURRENDER YOUR KEYBOARDS. WE WILL ADD YOUR INTELLECTUAL AND VERNACULAR DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. YOUR FORUMS WILL ADAPT TO SERVICE US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

I mean, it seems a waste to put a Fenris or Aten on escort duty, when a group of two or three of these cheaper, faster ships would work better, and even be able to split up to engage multiple fighter wings.

If noe do exist, maybe it's time i got off my but and learnt how to mod... Maybe.

It seems to me that it would be cheaper for GTVA to use Aeolus anyway (which can't exploit its SGreens) and a type of 'light carrier' for convoy escorts.  Both of these can be used for other stuff, and aren't so mission-specific.  Less important convoys might have only a TAC1 modified to include a power plant and a hangar bay and maybe a flak or two (there's a project for you!)

Any fighter carrier and fighters will always be more cost effective than a 'cruiser' since fighters will always be cheaper, not having to have facilities for crew and such.. as long as the carrier doesn't go down

Of course one might conceive of a 'gunboat tender' like Star Fleet Battles "PF-Tender" where the gunboats dock between battles.  Maybe twice the size of a fighter, a flak, a self-defense turret, then some larger variety of primary/secondary weapons bays... would need some disadvantage since such a thing might be really hard for fighters to kill

I'm guessing before the the fighters in the T-V war, there were mini gun boats.  The FS version of attack helicoptors.  They held decent weaponry thought not for there larger size 45 meters, but were extremely slow reaching 20 ms tops and weak manueverability.

Yes. The gunship variant is designated GVGs Satis.

Gunships IMO should be used mainly for anti-fighter roles, since they are generally not big enough to justify their own anticap beams. Besides, the convoys they protect are attacked by pirates, but pirates rarely have anything bigger than a cruiser (which can usually be taken out by fighters and the gunships).

Wrong. The Aeolus was discontinued and the GTVA only had 2 dozen of them before the NTF fiasco happened. After Capella, I'd say the GTVA had 7 or 8 Aeoluses left, although this says little of the Aeoluses sold to entities other than the GTVA (pirates, mercs, and such). That's why I thought up the GTC Peleus class in the first place. Cheap, since it's made from Fenris parts, yet about as good as the Aeolus in combat.

Yet another reason to eagerly await Winds of Fate, and the other two campaigns in the Eden Project series.

As for "light carriers", the correct term is a dropship, which is anything cruiser-to-corvette-sized (300m-800m long) which has a fighterbay. The Moloch falls into this category (it has a fighterbay), therefore I feel it should be redesignated the SDs Moloch instead of SCv.

I'd like to see a light scout cruiser or something small with a crew of a dozen or so

Btw for the Regulas Syndicate ive turned the zephrym gas miner into a a Syndicate marauder stripped down to almost no nonessential weapon, it can cruise at around 40 ms but suffers from an extremely weak hull and less weapons than for other 150+meter ships.  Its for hit and runs but is easily destroyed when matched with a fenris or Sparta.

I'm also gonna make bird of prey raiders for them to use as well for convoy assaults, they too will lack sufficient weaponry for all out assaults but will rock for their lightning attacks
