Descent 2 has a Gauss Cannon in it, although it functions more like an electromagnetic shotgun. Too bad they did not include it in Descent 3; if I had that thing online I would be an unstoppable killing machine!

well, it is in it, sort of... they kept the look of the weapon for the gatling... but both gatling and GAUSS gun were better than that D3 version

Actually guass is a bit different. It actually fires around 30 packed explosive rounds in one shot. Vauss was a  guass mini gun. Vulcan was the first and was just a regular gattling gun. Gauss was the best though. Mass Driver is fires really big explosive rounds electromagnetically.

yeah, VAUSS. I couldn't remember the name. Well, it sux, the GAUSS rules forever on the Descent world.
For the VAUSS being a GAUSS minigun, if you ask me, the fire rate of the VAUSS is really not worth the loss of punch. Damn, with 3 or even maybe 4 shots per second, or the dozen of the gatling, the VAUSS really is crap.

Ah well. If someone could make a modified missile trail for a GAUSS cannon or something, i bet we'd all be glad. I sure would be.

Also, a sig test...

Very true. The Vauss is essentially equivalent to the Vulcan IMHO. I use it in pretty much the same situations; very good weapon in D3, but it can't even compare to the Gauss.

The Gauss was just plain awesome; fairly low ammo requirement, high rate of fire, heavy kinetic effect, tons of damage, splash damage, instantaneous projectiles...I could go on and on about this thing.

It was a bit unbalanced though (a good player armed with a Gauss was simply unstoppable in multiplayer), so that is probably why it was removed in D3.

mmh, the projectiles were not instantaneous, there was a small delay
The gatling was better than the VAUSS, like the GAUSS, it was almost instantaneous impact, the enemy couldn't see the shots and, well, the rate of fire of the gatling was.... pfewwwwwww

hehe oh yeah, the Gauss did take about half a second to get to its target. Was only really noticeable in large rooms though.   (I did not discover this until level 7 of the main SP mission pack, where there is that really big room full of waterfalls, while I had had the Gauss from level 3 :P)

Actually there was this one really annoying enemy guy (at least on Insane difficulty), called the "Bulk Destroyer" I think, who fired Gauss rounds at Vulcan speeds. Good thing he stopped firing every few seconds; guess his Gauss cannons were overheating or something.

my favourite bots are still from Descent1. Some from D3 are neat too, but the ones from D2 were really too odd looking (but of course, there was some very fun ones, like the thief bot hehehe  ).
Mhh... I just realized I still have D3 on my HD, i'm stuck in a stupid secret level full of accelerator corridirs and of frag missile turrets (HARRRGH!!! frag missiles, I don't know anything more deadlier in a small corridor   )

yeah I also preferred the D1 bots to the D2 ones for the most part. The various hulks were quite memorable, although that dude with the homing missiles and the purple guy with the fusion cannons were annoying! (the boss hulks were pretty frustrating too but there was only one of each in the missions)

Some of the D3 bots were sort of funny though, like all those stormtroopers (there are five or six varieties) and that funky boss at the end of the mercenary campaign.   (the Hellion boss in the main campaign was pretty cool too)

yeah, the red hulk was a pain hehe, the fusion one don't really remember...
I liked the vulcain bot in D1, he really looked agressive, and he really was hehe (it rammed me multiple times with his crazy side slides, even if it's not the purpose of the guy   )

They're 3 different weapons, that fire 3 different ways, but use the same form of firepower, basically a chunk of rock or metal, like small asteroids or bullets.

Mass dirvers punch out higly energized projectiles.
Rail guns use electromagnets to accelerate the projectile, the magnets are in long bars on the front of the gun, like Rails, hence the name.
I cant remember the way a Gauss rifle works, but its similar to the mass dirver.

Hope that helps clear things up.

and a regular projectile launcher I think, in Xcom terror from the deep.

Someone to reinstall this game, and check the data of the weapon?

That's something that always bugged me about Syndicate. The icon for the Gauss showed it as this tiny little snub-nosed thing. Clearly someone on the design team had no idea what the term meant.

That wasn't half as annoying as accidentally Persuading someone you were supposed to assassinate, though. Whoops!
