I just think people are viewing China as a third world country a bit too much. China is certainly a superpower in this world, at least moving towards it very quickly.

I personally think (and, to some measure, hope) that China will be the superpower of the 21st Century. It's just too big - if it plays its cards right, it will end up eclipsing the US in terms of sheer industrial mass, and it's arguable that that's what really won WW2 for the US.
