Even if the rest of it were crap, then who cares? Minimum, it's a free Athlon 64 processor. There aren't enough adjectives to describe how much a new one of them would cost.

:wtf:

Actually, that system is only about twice as fast as mine.

(Athlon XP 2600+,
Radeon 9700 Pro,
512Mb PC2100 DDR RAM,
40Gb HDD)

OK, the Athlon64 system has got a lot more storage space, but in terms of actual game speed, it'll probably only hit twice my framerate.  And my rig is adequate for HL2 (on current showing, anyway), so I'm happy.

I'm looking at a RAM upgrade in the near future.  Going for PC3200, and a new mobo.  My spec described above is asssuming that I'm using a mobo capable of 333Mhz FSB, and mine isn't, so technically it's only an Athlon XP 2000+...  So actually, the competition rig will probably triple my current framerates.

And getting a four figure framerate at 1280x1024 res in Quake 3 is pretty impressive even for an Athlon64...

Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Or one could just sell it on to a gullible individual and make a tidy profit.

After all, my Athlon 1.4 GHz and Voodoo 3 are all I'll ever need :P

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

The good thing about having such a ridiculously slow machine as mine is that you can allow yourself to be constantly amazed at how cheap and fast PCs these days have become. It is my only source of self-encouragement I get these days. :D

In response to LSD and Hotsnoj: That motherboard is one of the best out there for the A64. And no A64 has DC-DDR. The chip is what has the memory controller, not the motherboard.

So says the AMD fanboy.

And I wish it was the MSI instead of the Asus :p

um..yeah. It was more of a joke. I know that with those specs it wouldn't really matter if it had DC-DDR with the stuff I do. Heck I want it for Halo man!
I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.

I thought you serious. Sorry. And I think I'm going to edit that last post. It was a bit too hostile.
