My God.. it's full of stars
Yo. Any chance of getting a variety of stars? Like, different sizes and colours?

SCP rocks a fat one, BTW

Or how about having it so that you can enter a system's galactic co-ordinates in FRED, and then it positions the starts according to how they would be in reality. Even allowing various dates to be entered to allow for galactic drift.

RT wanted to do something about them. :)

I'm still waiting patiently.

Personally, i'd like a system that would make pretty clusters and stuff with their dense points at background images (i.e. anything from stars.tbl that is not a planet image).

I think for the moment we could really do with a lot more stars, maybe around 20000 for the star limit, as that would be an easy change to make and would probably make a big difference. Some variations in colors and sizes could be added in later as well. I recently got IWar2 and although its nebulas are probably worse than FS2's (original), the presence of so many stars makes the backdrops look much nicer.

what about a starmap?
I mean to tell the game where to put stars using a black and white image, the game will use the white dots to decide where to put the stars and the size of the dots to decide the size of the stars. This way we'll have full control of it.
The colour of the stars could be determined by the size of the dots or using coloured dots
Is something like that possible?
Also, it would be useful a checkbox in fred to tell the game if an image is in front of the stars or not (you select the image and then select the box if you don't want stars in front of that image)

How about the addition of star clusters?  If they could be created with the existing stars, just have a 2nd slider in FRED to control the number of these.  Also, a skybox included with FRED for a wrap-around milky way backdrop.

Question of tastes. They're less overdone, they look more natural imho. I duuno about having more stars, but I do agree that as lightspeed said, clusters would be cool.
Didn't I see something like that on that forum, tho?

I think the realy problem with IWar2's nebulas isn't the nebulas themselves, but the speed you fly at.. If they had the low foggy visibility of Freespace 2's you wouldn't be able to see anything flying at 2000 m/s :)

They could use a bit more color variation though.

You do realize that it's also a quote from one of the best sci-fi novels ever, 2001: A Space Oddessy by Arthur C. Clark, yes?

It's a standalone program that accurately simulates the Milky Way galaxy including stars, planets, moons and thier orbits - as well as man made satellites and various comets (I think). The entire solar system is accurately modelled and you can fly around wherever you want, go wherever you want and even jump forwards or backwards in time to view a solar eclipse from Earth or see where everything will be in a thousand years time.

It's neat :)
