HL2 loses automatically because of the damn Steam issues.
Halo 2 will win simply because of Fanboi-ism and the fact that they have a lot of celebrities in their corner.

Half Life 2

uhm, that's about it. All the games which I have played in recent times have been from 2003 (Call of Duty, Prince of Persia etc.)

Doom 3 and GTA: San Andreas.

Agreed. Its a fantastic game, one of my all time favourites.

Playing it now. I just reached the Russian missions, and boy are they hard. Bastard Russians, firing on their own people. I hates them precious, hatessss them.

Someone else who's played it! At last! :D I'm gutted, because the ending left things wide open for a sequel, but there will never be one because it sold so poorly... :(

And try the Russian missions on the highest difficulty level. THAT is hard... ;)

Don't worry. When I become a millionare, a sequel is first up on my list, right after FS3.

Honestly, the world and characters made simply wandering around a joy. The art director for that game should get a medal. Seems I have a knack for falling in love with phenomenal, though commercially unsuccessful games (FS2, BG&E, Red Faction, System Shock 2 etc)

Agreed. It wasn't overly complex, but it all fitted together so perfectly you got immersed in the whole place. I loved the species - felis sapiens, taurus sapiens etc. Sheer genius...

Did you ever play Ico on the PS2? That's my all-time favourite game for art direction and visuals. It was beautiful. I'll have to see if I can post some screenshots one of these days....

I just finished Homeworld 2 and then Homeworld Cataclysm.

Epic and utterly satisfying.

As for the games released this year:
Doom 3: Atmospheric, visually brilliant but dissapointing end boss and repetitive scenarios. (enter room, approach items, get jumped).
HalfLife 2: More dissapointing than the Phantom menace and the Matrix sequels combined into some kind of uber-dissapointment-causing-package-of-woe.
Steam: You suck.

in no particular order

halo 2
mechassault 2
ninja gaiden (when was this released? 2003?)
all for xbox

i can't buy pc games cuz my computer is crap
hmm.....

I hated Doom 3's graphics. It didn't look half as good as HL2 IMO. And I just got bored of it. I played it up to the point where there's that sort of monorail-train thingy that you have to move around between 3 or so stations and do.... something. I just couldn't be arsed to play any more. Lucky I didn't buy it really...

(I didn't pirate it btw - I borrowed it off a friend to see what it was like, given the mixed reviews)

Half Life 2 on the other hand I really enjoyed. Yeah, the lack of plot and closure at the end was really annoying, and Steam is a pile of crap, but simply playing the game was great fun. Ravenholm, for example - fantastic. Better than anything Doom 3 offered me, and was good to play through. Also the airboat helicopter chase - brilliant. And the sound was soooo much better than that on D3....

I urge everyone to go out and buy Beyond Good and Evil. You'll probably find it for 5 quid in a bargain bin, and it'll be the best money you've spent in a long time. BRILLIANT game :yes2::nod::yes:

Why Maeg, why do you hate joy?

edit: no, I haven't played ICO, on account of not having a PS2. Maybe when they get cheap (I can get the Gamecube for a hundred bucks where I live) or when someone comes up with an emulator.

raa: just over $1.50 American I think.
quid= british pound

Raa: "Quid" is slang for a pound (£1), which is about $1.90 at the moment (according to xe.com). Basically, it'll be very cheap - the price of a budget game. :) Note that the plural is the same, i.e. you'd say "one/a quid" and "five quid" or "fifty quid", not "fifty quids"...

Rictor: I'll have to hook the puter up to the TV and grab some screenshots then. It's breathtaking (or at least I think so :D).
