Media Player Classic. Get it off sourceforge.

Or VLC media player. Plays pretty much anything.

I prefer Media Player Classic for movies and sound clips, and iTunes for music.

I do have VLC, but it's controles are a little unintuitive IMO, though I do like utilitarian designs. I use VLC for files I otherwise can't get open, and has only rarely let me down. but it isn't good for a general media player unfortunately.

and I would like a tv tuner software alternative from the ATI standard (becase they suck, but also becase the installer refuses to work)

General Video playing = VLC and Media Player Classic

General Audio playing = foobar
