Simple question from a simple person
Well, personally, I do all my work post-production - in the equivalent of an image editor - but people who use TS, I'd imagine, would put in a tube where necessary and give it certain properties to glow and such. I could be completely wrong, though.

well..
Adobe premier,
Digital Fusion (best one)
Shake!
photoshop probably has filters for this kind of stuff as well

most mid-high end 3D packages *SHOULD* have limited features for hilighting and glowing/blurring,
3dsmax has video post..i know lightwave does supersampled glow effects, maya has a glow feature.  I would refuse to beleive softimage doesnt.

Any tips for people who use Adobe Photoshop 6.0 then?? I have Adobe Photoshop 6.0 but have no idea how to do beams in post production in it.

Primary weapons fire is easy, but I still haven't figured out how to make the beams look Freespacey

Well Setekh uses Spire, a custom made program that you can't find in any shop (damn you still Mr AWACs)

I use Photoshop for my beams...heres how...

Open Photoshop. Place your ship and so on, make a selection thats the shape you want the beam to be. Make sure it's wide enough to accomadate the white selection your going to put on top.

This is your "base" colour, if it's Shivan: red, Terran? green/blue or whatever you want it to look like. Flood fill it.

Now you make a selection inside this, which you'll fill white. You should now have something that looks beam like buy is to sharp, so you can either blur it or use the smudge tool on it (very lightly). Bam! one beam. It takes practice but it works

Time to install Linux again

In a few months when I get a new computer, I might just turn that old hunk'o'junk into a spiffin' Linux box.

Oh, the thing is around, I tried (unsuccessfully) to port it to Windows - but I found I had to change the whole API to get it functioning (duh). I'm not that good at Python, so I'm incapable of doing it (for now), and my brother is completely anti-Windows (one of the reasons he made it for Linux - other than stability). He continues to develop it in his spare time at IBM. I really have to look around for a better Windows compiler than this 4-year old piece of junk they call 'Borland'.
