I picked this gem up for $14.00 at Circuit City about 2 weeks ago and have been having a blast in the SP campaign.  I am continually amazed at the level of detail that it is able to squeeze out of my antique video card with little seeming performance hit.

Anybody else played this?
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.

I haven't played this one, although I have played the original a few times.  It was pretty good; I liked the concept of an action RTS.

It's more tactical that the average RTS.  You gain points that you use to call in reinforments by taking and holding strategic locations on the map.  One thing I have discovered is don't leave you're tanks without AAA support.  They'll get picked apart.  That and the artillery is painfully accurate and leads just right.

Yeah, I was astounded at the level of detail in GCII - I'm still convinced it's the prettiest looking RTS engine out there.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Basically it's for people who are fed up having to build harvesters, base defenses, factories...well build anything in fact, just you and your globe trotting army.

You know what's a real shame? I love the graphics in GC2. It's incredibly well polished and looks a joy to play.

But I like building up a huge base and defending / attacking from it. In every RTS before GC2 I've never enjoyed the missions where you're left with a limited squad and - if they die - you fail the mission.

I'm a base builder, I just wish GC2 had included it. As it is I settle for Dawn of War, which is almost as good and still great fun to play.

If you enjoyed that, I recommend MechCommander Gold and MechCommander 2.
