starcraft did pic fun at a lot of sci-fi. and such. most of the people in the special thanks section were those who had someting of theres made fun of in the games. i notices aliens got picked on (dropship), st:tng (battlecriuser), contact (archon), dune (the dead worms in the desert terrain of brood war), to name a few. if freespace would have come out before starcraft, they would have made fun of it too.

as for the dune universe, id have to admit its somewhat original and doesnt have an alien in sight, cept the worms. ive never read the books and probibly wont, as my brain isnt really compatable with reading. i would like to know more about what happened before where the movies picked up. dune has about 8000 years of unexplained human history.

ok, about dune...

it did have about 10000 years of unexplained history..but biran hurbert and kevin j anderson have cleard that up for alot of this world with the 3 "prelude to dune" books, "house atredies" "house harkonen" and "house corrino"

this explains the bits leading up to the start of the dune books...like why the atredies got dune and about the son instead of the daughter with jessica and stuff...

they also did 3 books like 1000 or 10000 years before..i cant remember the timeline...

this is the butlerian jihad series...it explains where the sheilds came from...where space folding came from..why the harkonens hate the atredies so much and vice versa, how the spice was found and how it became the biggest thing in the univers...ow the sister hood of the bene geserites were formed(they were atredies decendents), where the suk doctors came from, how house corrino formed (they were actually harkonen) where sword masters came from, how mentats were mad, how the thinking machines were destroyed and the starting of the spacing guild and so on.

it is very cleverly intertwined and stuff...oh andit also tell of whey the fremen are called fremen (it does come from free men) and how the first person descoverd how to ride the worms...and why there are some city dwelling fremen and deep desert fremen...

shows where glow globes come from too...umm...the cornnos should actually hate the harkonens too. but they were once harkonens...then they were butlers..and then they were corrinos.

umm..any more questions...ask me :)

i never knew that those worms were from dune in brood war...hee, cool

I think the gameplay and story elements had a bit to do about that too :nervous:

It's a well known fact Blizzard likes to poke fun at things in their games. They should make a sequel. Starcraft was awesome.

and that they're both technologically advanced... they have weak bodies and rely on heavy armor,

on earth...there was a big uprising and some humans escaped...one being an atredies. he was the sone of the cymek titan agamemnon and he had had a life extension treatment and lived for like...a very very long time...he was still alive like 200 years or something later...

i wish they explained who took out salusa secundus though...they said that that family was removed from all records...and also...how the hell did they bring corrin back to being a good planet..after the machines had stripped it if all usable elements while defending it.

anyway..i think dune is an awesome game..and should be made into a better game than alread exists...but i think it is a touchy thing to do, because you cant just make somethng up....it has to be in cannon with the books exactly...that is a hard thing to do..
