Hey, how are things going around here? Some of you might still remember me; I think it has been over ten months since I was last here. I have been very tied up with college coursework and now an intership program I am in, but have a bit more free time at the moment than I used to. I was going to post here some months ago but somehow forgot with all the other things I had on my mind. I got an email from Goober about something yesterday and it suddenly reminded me that I still had not returned.
As for the campaign project I was working on, PI, I've pulled the plug on it due to a huge setback I had a while ago and a lack of free time in general. Basically, my hard disk died for some reason last December and among other things, I lost about six months worth of major progress on the campaign. Since I was working on this more or less alone, I had the only copy of it. I had a recent backup on a CDRW but it had somehow become unreadable (Memorex RWs are garbage by the way; found that out the hard way), and the previous backup was way out of date. This sort of killed my enthusiasm since the material I lost had been some of my best work and the campaign had gotten close to completion, although given how busy I have been during the last several months, I wouldn't have had time to work much further on it anyway. I was going to ask the admins to take down the hosted site here some time ago, but got occupied with many other things (this was around the time of my final exams for that semester) and forgot about it, so it's a good thing they got around to that anyway. I hate to give up PI after the huge amount of time I have already spent on it, but realistically I don't think I will be able to complete it anytime soon. If at some point I can muster the time and interest to resume work on it privately, I might try to redo some of the progress I had made, but for now the project is cancelled.
I have actually had pretty bad luck with hard drives in the last few years, with three bad ones in a row. First it was one of the infamous IBM 75GXP Deathstars, then a Seagate 120GB and then this Maxtor. At least the replacement from Maxtor was a larger capacity model than what I sent in. I still have that stupid deathstar with its chainsaw-like bearing noise lying around somewhere.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying out what the SCP has to offer, as there have probably been quite a few additions to it since I left. I'll probably play through FS2 again with all the latest enhancements. It will be fun to try it out at 2048x1536 on my new monitor. It's actually been quite a while since I last fired the game up. I will be posting here every now and then, but not quite as regularly as I used to.
