I first thought, How could I have missed this! But, it's not my Birmingham.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "From the reports we have heard we would estimate that this is a tornado with a rating of T3-T4, that would mean it had wind speeds of between 93-114 mph for T3 and 114-130 for T4.

People also have no idea Norther California ever get tornadoes.  Quite the contrary, tornadoes are fairly common here...  It's just that they don't ever do anything :D.

I once had a friend have half their house torn off. Worse part is they were the only home in a 20 arce farm. Then unfortunatly the tornado went right down the main street of Fleetwood, Pa. I saw disaster when I went to help clean up the mess.

That's the whole point. They're incredibly rare in Britain...

I can't remember a single tornado ever hitting a UK town (er, except this one).

I think there's been the odd very weak waterspout or soforth.  But nothing that could ever damage property, let alone tear roofs off.

Hopefully this is just an exception and not the beginning of a pattern.

Here is a faq I found about UK tornados. Looks about normal to me. Just that this one hit somewhere to cause damage

I was in town a good few miles away when it happened, no wind as such, but I've never seen rain like it; New Street became a river in about half a minute. Freaky.
