Alright, I just checked Apple's support site - $249 for a repair! They don't even repair your old iPod, they just send you a new one of the same type! For that money, I could get a brand new iPod Photo!

By the way, the iPod Photo and the iRiver cost the same...hmm...but I don't see anywhere where it says it plays videos, Sandwich.

[color=66ff00]Those iRiver 6GB units are tres sexay, I might pick one up when I get some cash together.

I don't really understand those multimedia units though, it just seems like an addon that's unnecessary and rather expensive.

It's not part of the official off-the-shelf specs, but - and this is what I love about iRiver (the company) - they released their firmware-upgradable player, saw it had a color screen, saw it had a reasonably fast processing unit, and so set out to make a firmware upgrade to enable video playback. :D

For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. Frame Rate   10fps at Maximum
Bit Rate   500Kbps at Maximum(recommend under 450Kbps)

I wouldn't exactly call that 'video playback'

:doubt:

It's no DVD playback, sure, but who would want to watch a movie on such a screen? For TV episodes - Simpsons, Sienfeld, etc - it's fine. That resolution is the actual resolution of the screen itself, so higher than that is pointless. And at that resolution, that low bitrate is more than enough. The only thing that could stand improvement is the frame rate, which is probably limited to such a low amount due to hardware limitations. But hey, if you want it for video, why get an audio player? Get the PMP-120/140. :D

Besides, at least it's better than this. :D

They do. iRivers tend to be very reliable and have most of the important peripherals you would have to buy for the iPod in-built.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but the H10 5/6 GB players do have detachable battery packs. The 20 GB have theirs inbuilt. I find the H10 much better than the iPod in almost every way except the control mechanism. Nothing beats a circular touch pad.

Go on eBay. I got mine for $150. It is "refurbished* though, but all this means is that it doesn't come in the original retail packaging. However, the player looks and plays exactly like a new unit. It does have a warranty on it too.

GUESS WHAT GUYS?! APPLE ROCKS! Not only are they offering to repair my ipod for $245, but they're going to send me a BRAND NEW model of the EXACT same type - even though a brand new color ipod only costs $45 more!

It gets better! Rather than doing that, I ordered a brand new HD instead - but it's going to a different place! So I won't get the HARD DRIVE for at least 3 weeks, and any music on my ipod for FOUR! YAY!

*sarcasm*

Get something that isn't an iPod.

The H10 has a ton of stuff that the iPod mini doesn't have:

-Drag and drop file transfer, or synchronizing with WMP 10.
-Awesome quality FM radio tuner built in.
-Voice recorder for those long lectures in class.
-Vivid color screen
-Capable of displaying photos.
-Can view .txt files for those notes you need to brush up on.
-Firmware upgradable. Problems are easily fixed with firmware updates, and you can even get user-created firmware.
-12 hour battery life (detachable!).
-Easy to get cheap on eBay 'cause everyone is obsessed with getting an iPod.
