A great article about the neutron bomb and how politicians feed off of our insecurities and the nation's most troubled times.
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

Well I can say from my brief visits with senators this summer that he's dead on.

Even simple issues such as trade agreements people don't read or understand what is going on beyond blurbs like "trade is good, me support."

They don't look at advantages/disadvantages such as what's their labor laws, does their GDP mean that they'll contribute or be a drain? etc...

The politicians have been feeding off of the insecurities of people in this country for several years now.

Have to keep people good and scared, it makes them easier to control.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Yep, I've said this before (not here though) Cold War all over again, only not so cold.

I don't agree with the Freudian explanation for war, but c'mon, it's obvious people in power have issues. Everyone has issues nowadays and should be in therapy. Bush probably has issues with being the black sheep of the family, besting his father and brother, and who knows what else is wrong in there.

Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

The concept of the Nuetron bomb always scared me - something that could kill people without damaging technology?
It's still scary....but at least now I know why..... :p

Interesting article, interesting read. Glad I dont live all the way at the west for once. However, the concept of politics being beyond your worst nightmares is all too true regardless of which country you are in.
