I agree with roanoke, I always thought the homeworld tactical overlay really needed a toggle feature. I sucks for taking clean screenies of something ingame. Then again its pretty usefull for telling what type of ship each ship is.

Um, Homeworld's tactical overlay does have a toggle.  It's called the Capslock key. :nervous:
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

Yup. I've used it some when last I played. I still have the game installed, but I'm not working on playing through it right now.

I'd never be wondering, "Now where the hell did those bombers get to?"

Yep. Very true. I hate that, dont you?

[color=66ff00]aldo and Flaser understand what I'm getting at. It's a situational awareness aid.

Fighters that are outside your range of vision for instance require a bit of guesswork to identify if you're just relying on the 3D radar. Wingmen that are being hassled (if the need to save them strikes you. ;) ) could be outlined in boxes that alternate from green to amber. Priority targets that are attacking objective craft, disabled craft, fighters and bombers could all be identified quickly and easily.

You rely on a simulation of a flight computer to render the hud, why wouldn't it perform threat assessment amoungst other tasks afterall?

  • Groooove Evening, viewers!
Do you think this should pause the action so you can look around at the field, or will things stay real time?

It doesn't pause anything in Homeworld. Why should it pause the action here?

[color=66ff00]I don't think doing that will add anything to the game, it's semi-realistic if it looks like your flight computer is handling targeting data and IFF in real time.

As soon as you start pausing and moving around the 'battlefield' you are in danger of loosing that realism.

IMHO anyhow.
