True, I must have seen this a few months ago, and, c'mon lads, it's really not that impressive. If you can tell me that these are ingame graphics and it'll run respectably on a system other that the computers described here, then i'll be impressed. But for now, 'meh'...

I never said it wasn't impressive...

...Did you even read my post? I quoted you because i'd also seen this thing, and the same renders, months ago. Honestly, you are waaaaaay too defensive...

...and anyway, you should seriously chill about being called an Xbox Fanboy, it's not a bad thing! Annoying, yes, but a bad thing, no...

What i want to know is how that can be rendered 60 times a second on a top of the line computer, but doing a comparable render in a 3d package like maya or max doesn't take only 1/60th of a second, but instead takes several minutes.

Heh, one of my computers struggles to play the video in real time ;)

Doesn't Maya do ray-tracing? Same with 3DS Max.

Ray-tracing delivers a perfect quality image. Game engines do approximations based on rendering a polygon at a time. These days, those approximations are getting damned good, but they still can't do complex reflection like ray-tracing can.

Calm down.

I'm not hopping on any band wagon. I don't really care what consoles people like or don't - they're not going to sit me down and force me to play them so they can like what they like and I'm quite happy that they're entertained.

However.

I've noticed recently that every X Box related thread you start turns into a semi flame war with the usual suspects trying to make things worse left right and centre. Notice how the a couple of posts made after your first directly relate back to this little conflict you guys have going on?

My point is that I'm tired of seeing it go round in circles. You are far too defensive of the X Box brand (and believe me I've come close to locking a couple of topics because of the way they've gone). Others need to equally learn when to shut up and just post about the topic rather than this ongoing little feud.

Honestly, if you guys can't leave it alone then you'll be facing some form of bannage. It's quite sad to see some topics about quite interesting games (be it on console or PC) degrade into the same tired little demi-flame war.

There. Hope that's easy enough to understand. You're not being singled out - you and those who have been antagonising you now know the score.

I can't load up the video, so can't really comment on this particular instance, but I find that as developers advance their renderer technology more and more the relative quality of model animation has started to decline slightly. Personally, I'd rather see fluid, realistic movement rather than pixel-shader based chainmail, for example.

Having said that, it looks very cool, although quite similar to Gears of War. Same engine?

Well, I do know that that tech demo is running on the top of the line hardware today, so in 2-3 years when the game is released, hopefully we've upgraded by then :D, or this 1.8ghz athlon is gonna explode...

Not the same engine. It's a new engine developed by a 3-man team called the Offset Engine. GeoW uses the UE3 engine.

seriously, evreything i see about this engine seems to be an exact carbon copy of the UE 3:0 engine. Mabye these guys were impressed by it, wanted to make theiir own engine money?
